oh god, the postgame show is compelled, I think by federal law, to now engage in the discussion of "how do you react when you're up 3-0 / down 0-3 in a series? Let's turn to Gary Sheffield and Pedro Martinez"

It's so glorious. I should tape this.

Oh my god, the 2007 Rockies rotation was even worse than I thought. They started Jeff Francis, a not even close to good yet Ubaldo Jimenez, Josh Fogg and Aaron Cook in that series. If you held a gun to my head ten minutes ago, read me that list and asked me if it was true or not on pain of death, pretty sure I would have voted that was a lie. Josh Fogg? He had a 7.58 ERA the year after this and was out of baseball a year after that.

Did the record for fewest hits in a LCS series get mentioned? How close are the Cards?

23, by the 2017 Cubs. Weren’t even swept, which makes that more pathetic, honestly. 11 hits or fewer allowed in a Nats win today and the record is set.

The last team to lose an NLCS game despite 11 hits or more? Also St. Louis, also 11 hits exactly, also game 4, of 2014 against the Giants.

That’s a cool stat. If it wasn’t mentioned on the broadcast, you should find a way to get it to them.

Actually, because you have a lot of these, why don’t you form your own LLC with a cool sounding name, make a Twitter handle and find ways to get your findings to broadcasts or sportswriters until you get enough buzz to parlay it?

What a good idea. Maybe she could use a good lawyer. Know any lawyers?

Through three games, the Cardinals have 2 runs, 11 hits, and 3 walks in 91 at-bats over 27.0 innings.

That's a slash line of: .121/.167/.143/.310

They've averaged one baserunner every 2 innings. Washington's combined pitching line is: 0.33 era, 0.52 whip, 11.3 k/9

I don't think I've ever seen such futility. Though, sadly, the 1990 ALCS comes close. In four games, the Sox scored 4 runs, had 23 hits and 4 bb with a slash line of .183/.216/.246/.462.

Sorry off topic, but it never really should be. I googled Gary Sheffielg 3-0 and found this
https://www.espn.com/mlb/playoffs2004/columns/story?columnist=caple_jim&id=1905664
I'm not sure I've ever read that before. If I did, I certainly don't remember it. But that's really good stuff from Caple.

There's way too many great lines to quote them all. This might be my favorite:
Not even the old "Have A Fan In The Bleachers Make The Umpire Screw Up A Home Run Call'' ploy worked for the Yankees.
