If you could see an honest documentary on any sports topic, what would you want to see? For me, Deflategate is at the top of the list. I'd also like to see one on the true relationship between Brady and Belichick. Also one on the life of Pedro Martinez.
the dysfunctional 2001-2002 Sox. They were insane.

I wish he didn't do this at all. A 10 part "Last Dance" style doc on the Patriots after Belichick and Brady retire is what I want.

Ep 1: 9/11, Bledsoe injury, Brady, SB36 (Brady backstory)
Ep 2: SB38 & SB39- story of key players from those teams (law, bruschi, etc)
Ep 3 & 4: Mangini, Spygate, Moss, 16-0, SB42 (Belichick back story)
Ep 5 & 6: Brady injury, phase out of first generation players, 2009 bust, SB46, Aaron Hernandez, Rise of Gronk
Ep 7: Deflategate, SB49, Malcom Butler
EP 8: Brady Suspension, Jimmy G, 28 - 3
EP 9: Jimmy G Trade, Butler benching, SB52 loss
Ep 10: SB53 win, Gronk retirement, Kraft arrest, AB, Brady /Belichick rift, Brady free agency.
Thats exactly what I'd love to see, 5-6 years down the line. I have serious doubts as to whether all the relevant principals would ever open up enough to make it work, but the way you've laid it out is perfect.

So there's no way they get BB for this right? I can't see him being interviewed for a documentary about an active player who plays for another team. Seems like it would have made way more sense to wait until he's retired and then you can get all the pats management to talk publicly.

The cradle of the game.
I just want to hear his thoughts on the bomb to Moss. Has to be one of the best throws ever.
The bomb that gets me was the Hail Mary at the end of SB LII. Avoids a sack, got it exactly to where Gronk and 6 Eagles were waiting... and the deflection nearly ended up in the arms of Dorsett.

The one that gets me is the Hail Mary at the end of SB XLVI. Avoids a sack, launches it 70 yards downfield right to where Hernandez is waiting, and the deflection nearly ended up in the arms of Welker or a diving Gronk. Crazy that each of the SB losses ended with ridiculous Hail Mary attempts.

That is true. Pretty remarkable how close they game to converting those. Most of the time, you get sacked or forced to throw way short. He executed perfectly in all 3.

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
It's like being in a bar and seeing an old girlfriend, accompanied by her new boyfriend, across the room.

Your current life is great, you feel that it was all for the best, you're having a great time with your current girlfriend who does stuff that your old girlfriend never would, hell, you're the one who initiated the breakup....... but there's still that pang in your stomach the first time you see her.

EDIT: OK, I am really having serious regrets about that whole "your current girlfriend who does stuff that your old girlfriend never would" part. If I told my 19 y/o son once, I told him hundreds of times: from start to finish, you are NEVER going to see this again in your lifetime, especially not for the team that you follow.

Surprised they went with that photo on the bottom right. Tom looks his age there - and then some. Bummer that he's not our guy anymore, but we all knew it never ends well. And so here we are.

The edit is perfect and true. But I've got to say, as someone who isn't a Pats fan, I'm still looking forward to the "your current girlfriend who does stuff that your old girlfriend never would" part. :)

Even with how much I’ll miss Tom here, this reminds me of football. And that’s a welcome distraction.

With that said, Brady’s success is infectious and a rare intensity that matches mine so my fandom goes well beyond the laundry to me. I hope he kicks major ass and goes 19-0 if we have a season this year.

Yeah for this analogy to work your relationship with your old girlfriend would have to have been the greatest relationship in the history of relationships. Because Brady on the Pats was the most successful run of any player on any football team ever.

Maybe it’s everything that’s going on in the world but seeing Brady in another uniform doesn’t bother me one bit. Five years ago, I would have puked. He also looks REALLY old in that last one.

Yeah, this is where I am. Brady being gone, no baseball, goofy NBA playoff scenarios ... none of it really bugs me these days.

But, damn, the Bruins got screwed

This is funny and all, but he can't win 2 in a row since Stidham is winning one.

It's disrespectful for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to sign a player like Tom Brady and then put him in those discount XFL uniforms. Gross.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that there's a group of players that really do want to 'get it out of the way now' given all the risks they knowingly accept stepping on the field versus losing playing time over it. Assuming there is a season.

Why not? The fatality rate for healthy adults under 50 is tiny. Treating camp like a measles party for kids would be smart.

Problem is there isn't any real data on how long the antibodies lasts. Could only be a couple months.

We are also still learning a lot about it. There is signs of lung damage in people that were asymptomatic. Question is did they always have the damage? Was it covid 19? Is it permanent damage? And the list goes on.

People really are playing dice with their life if they think "it's just the flu" "I'll be a lucky 'mild' case" etc. There is still so much unknown about the long term lasting effects of this disease.

The only way this line of thinking could be even semi-reasonable is if we truly are just giving up, heading to heard immunity, and 70% of the population is likely going to get COVID anyway. In that case, even more than 70% of the NFL will probably get it (given the close contract), and getting it now wouldn't be too bad. However, its worth remembering the longer you wait, the better the therapeutics could get.

Mortality rates will be low to non-existent for NFL players, but some will get very sick, and many will have at least temporary lung damage. We don't yet know to what degree, anyhow much will go away completely. But we do know previous serious pneumonia is a risk factor for lung cancer, so for that reason alone I'd try to avoid this thing in my 20s or 30s. A bad bout of COVID in your 20s might the same as 30 pack years of smoking for all we know. Of course NFL players are taking tons of risks in general, but I don't think they want to be purposely adding to the list.

I've looked at the weekly CDC summary for six weeks now and for all of that time it's said that the hospitalization rates for those most vulnerable, those over 65, are essentially the same as for the flu. If there's evidence of meaningful lung damage in asymptomatic cases, that's a serious issue.

I can save you the suspense.... there is definitely evidence of significant lung damage in some young asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic patients.

In fact, early in the epidemic some ERs in COVID hotbeds I know were ordering a CT of the chest along with a CT of abdomen and pelvis for patients with zero respiratory symptoms but complaints of abdominal pain (this never would have happened before). We were picking up lots of COVID positive patients with ugly lungs this way.

Jury of course still out on extent long term effects, but generally speaking we know bad pneumonias can have lingering consequences.

It seems very inconsistent to simultaneously say that someone is asymptomatic and that they have significant lung damage. Is this trying to have your cake and eat it too?

What? Can you have asymptomatic high blood pressure and have it cause significant cardiovascular disease? Yes.
