Yeah about a roster’s worth, what’s there to worry about?

NHLPA should be slightly more than livid right now

Why? Are you suggesting that the NHL shouldn't have mentioned how many players tested positive? Or is this more a general note that players should be angry about the proposed restart still going ahead? (Your choices of "NHLPA" instead of "The players" and "livid" instead of "worried" are curious.)

The latter, definitely wasn’t clear though - 26 positive tests before camps formally open / hub cities are even chosen is significant IMO. Unless the pre-phase 3 testing has a handful of positive tests or fewer, gotta say that the players are being put in harm’s way

The protocols and phased return to play plan was negotiated with the players, so I'm not sure they have much reason to be livid right now. Nervous/scared might be a better description. I am curious to see if any players opt-out like a handful of MLB and NBA players have. Opting out runs counter to hockey culture though, so we may not see any. Carey Price made some comments about not feeling totally comfortable yet, but he apparently made the trip back to Montreal yesterday.

We'll see where the tipping point is. Getting to the hubs and bubbles is going to be a challenge. Phase 3 is training camps starting on 7/10, and the camps are being held at the team facilities. Guys will practice and go home but who knows where else they'll go. Boston seems to be in a good place with the virus right now so maybe the Bruins can get through it unscathed, but the Panthers and Lighting appear to be in significantly more danger and the Lightning already had an incident to deal with. If one of those teams has 5-10 players test positive and have to quarantine during phase 3, I don't see how you can move forward to phase 4.

Watch a top-8 team be disqualified because of positive tests, get added to the pool of teams eligible for the #1 pick, and then get Lafrenierre.

It would seem if either the Eli Lilly or Regeneron antibodies get approved, they could give them to players who test positive.

Not an ideal use but they’re burning some in trials for prevention right now also.

Now is not the time to show how manly you are by avoiding testing and ignoring guidelines because of “hockey culture.” The last thing the sport needs is players ignoring their symptoms and spreading the virus.

Has there been any talk of pros using full glass face masks like in high school because of this? A lot of face offs you can see people breathing into each other’s mouths.

They’re not trying to show how manly they are. They need the money. And they don’t want to screw over their teammates by not playing. They all know the risks, and the situation sucks, but they’re doing what all of us who went into work today are doing. Leaving the house when we’re not really comfortable because we need the money.

I agree. That's not what they mean when they say "hockey culture" in this context. Hockey players are generally more conditioned to sacrifice themselves over their team. It's conditioned into them from a young age. I think that read is correct - there is no way a large number of players opt out because they dont want to let down "the boys."

Doesn’t sound like we’ll get the hubs today. Some chatter that Vegas may be falling out of favor with the league. Today the rumor mill is hot on Toronto and Edmonton.

I think they are also trying to do too much. In addition to working on the hubs and the return to play plan, they’re trying to finalize a CBA which includes dealing with the $300 million in bonuses that are supposed to be paid out tomorrow (free agent frenzy- remember that!).
