Oh how I would love for the jets to get the #1 pick only for Lawrence to pull a Manning and go back to school.
Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence is leaving the door open about his football future despite previously saying he planned on heading to the NFL after this, his junior season.
The 6-foot-6 Lawrence, considered the likely No. 1 pick in next spring's NFL draft, said he hasn't ruled out returning to Clemson for another year instead of going pro.
"My mindset has been that I'm going to move on,'' Lawrence said Tuesday. "But who knows? There's a lot of things that could happen.''

Very risky move, I'd say. I know playing for the Jets isn't attractive, but no guarantee the team that would draft him next year would be any better (and most likely not - given how the draft works).

Meh, college kids say that all the time before they declare.

The title for this thread is grossly misleading clickbait as well. If anything he hinted at going pro more than staying. The staying part is equivalent to a "If my ankle turns out like Dak Prescott and would require me to reestablish my draft position because I would be projected to significantly fall" shrug.

The other consideration is going to be how much is the reduced revenues this year is going to affect the salary cap and what the draft picks receive. Is that going to be significantly reduced? If so, it might be worth his while to go back to school.

Right now he's playing for free while exposed to a plague. No way he's playing as a senior, even if the risks return to only body damage.

The other alternative is that he plays the Eli Manning hand, which wouldn’t be the worst move on his part. The Jets are so bad, like really really really bad, in all aspects of the game that he needs to assume they’ll have the #1 pick next year as well.

Their shittiness is legendary. Teams that have intentionally tanked haven’t been this bad. They’re so bad that fans of the Jets probably prefer watching the Dexter final season over their games each Sunday. If their team was a candy it would be a black licorice candy corn.

Yup. Clickbait title. He's not hinting at staying at all. He's just giving a diplomatic answer which doesn't make every Clemson fan feel like he already has one foot out the door.

Lawrence said in September:

“I will graduate in December,” Lawrence told ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi. “I’m planning on this being my last season.”

Now he says:

"We'll just have to see how things unfold," Lawrence told media Tuesday. "There's a lot of factors in that. Honestly, really playing this year, putting everything I have into it and not really focusing on next year. If I leave or stay, whatever, obviously I have the option to do either one. Kind of my mindset's been that I'm gonna move on, but who knows? There's a lot of things that could happen."

To me that is basically a non-story, neither of those is definitive, but at the least the title should have been phrased better.
