So I have had an extra year to ponder scoring and was going to say screw it and just keep it the same way. But I found a method that I’m going to give a try .
No more bonus points per se. Instead changing the points per round to 2. 3 5 8 13 21. And for each game picked correctly you get the points for the round X their seed number. So in the first round if you pick the 8 seed to win and they do you get 16 points (2 points for the round times their seed). Here is where I found it

I should have the site up shortly. Would like to hear thoughts on the change as it’s not too late to tweak.

The site can be found at murphysmarchmadness.com. The fee will continue to be $20

I like it. I used to play in a pool that awarded bonus points for any 13, 14, 15, 16 win; the points being the difference between the winner and the loser (e.g. 13 beating a 4 was worth 9 extra points).

It was a good incentive for the early rounds but of no consequence thereafter. Your system seems much better.

I have not watched a single minute of NCAA hoops this year. Won't be participating. Good luck to everyone. Curious to see how the new system plays out.

You probably would have as good a chance as any to win this particular season.

I have not watched any college basketball either but will happily donate $20 to the cause to support my delusional ability to actually win (including that one time I almost did...damn Pitino).

I like it. It makes the games with the middle and higher seeds massively important in the first and second round, which is kind of fun.

But I like any pool. I'll be there in March!

Heck yeah.

Haven't watched as much as usual, but even the years I did watch a lot, it's not like it helped.

Haven't watched a single second of college hoops, but happy to donate $20 to the winner...

I'm doing squares for the tourney too. If anyone is interest check over on Fiskful of Dollars or PM me.

Just sent PayPal for second entry.

How are the entries looking? Fewer than previous years?

It looks lighter but I do see some new names and we do have an extra day to get entries in.

And I'm out of practice. The first batch of entries are up by mistake. I will take them down as soon I get home. But people are not seeing their name and wondering where their entry is.

Might get bored Friday morning and send another. I have even less idea than usual about how this is gonna go.

My brain hurts trying to come up with the best strategy for the new scoring. But will get 2-3 entries in over the next 24 hours.

When did this start by the way? I think I have been entering since 2005 or 2006.

What's your Venmo name? I tried your phone number and e-mail and at least it didn't look to me like they were pulling up an account tied to it.

So in ‘19 there were 298 entries. Right now there are 142. Thursday the first day of the tournament was always the busiest but I don’t think we’re getting close to’19 entries.

I actually think this might be due to the scoring change in a good way. I think with the previous system you had people who realized that certain picks were way overvalued and since they had an edge on the field they loaded up on the number of brackets they entered. I'm guessing people that were submitting 5-10 brackets might be down to 2-4 instead.

I am a big fan of the new scoring system. Definitely took a little while to figure out how to utilize, but even playing around with spreadsheets there's absolutely no glaring inefficiencies like the previous scoring system.

I'm in. Money sent. I usually am competitive in this but expect to underperform. I dont know ANYTHING about college hoop this year, and I am not scrutinizing the scoring system. I'm just picking like I always do lol

So it looks like:

Gonzaga: 108 picks
Illinois: 52
Baylor: 38
Michigan: 14
Houston: 9
Alabama: 8
UCONN: 6
UNC: 5 (1 guy picked them on all 4 of his entries)
Ohio St. : 4
Oklahoma St: 4
WVU: 4
UVA: 2
Iowa: 2
FSU: 2
Tennessee: 2
Texas: 1
Colorado: 1
Purdue: 1
Abilene Christian: 1

264 brackets? May have missed 1 or 2.
