PFF loves the pick:

"The narrative surrounding Mac Jones for the past few weeks was focused on whether he was worth not just the No. 3 overall pick, but the three first-round selections the 49ers invested in that draft slot. At No. 15 overall, it’s an entirely different conversation. Jones led the nation last season in overall PFF grade (95.8) and was the most accurate college quarterback in terms of adjusted completion rate (84.2%) PFF has seen. This is an outstanding pick."

I'm honestly a little stunned that the Pats got a guy they wanted, at a position they desperately needed help in, without giving up anything else.

It's impossible to know if a guy is going to be good or not so I'm going to say with 100% certainty this guy has bust written all over him.

And there are people upset about it.
Yep. Can't make everyone happy. And look, he may end up not being any good. It's not like this is a sure thing. But he can throw, he'll get stronger, he's playing for the best organization with the best coach, and he can take a year to learn - because I don't think he'll start right away. And he'll have a powerhouse offensive line, good receivers, great tight ends, and really good running backs around him. He's in a GREAT spot.

I’m here to follow what’s going on and read up on the prospects.

im not here for the hysterical takes that cannot possibly be more informed than even the worst NFL franchise.
There is nothing hysterical about it. As has been discussed for weeks/months. Jones has obvious flaws, which could inhibit his success in the NFL. He and Fields career trajectories should continue to be compared as he was a realistic move up for the Patriots.

Comparing Fields to Jones was shared in the QB thread quite recently at the link below and I tend to agree with this non-hysterical analysis of Fields and now, more importantly, Jones

Oh no doubt it COULD end disastrously. But they couldn't go with Cam as the future. This was the year to get a QB. I wanted them to trade up for Lance, but with Lance going #3, no shot at that. I'd have loved a move up for Fields too, but oh well. Mac at 15 works just fine. Didn't give up any extra picks, so that's a bonus.
Yeah... if they had traded up for Mac I would have been devastated & not just sad lol.

I 100% agree that this was the year...but yeahhh, I don't think it's the solution & with Fields dropping that far it hurts that much more.

I think he's more Colt McCoy than Tom Brady. But yeah. We shall see.

Absolutely agree.

All I can say is that I'm like 1000% more excited for the season now and that's what I really wanted coming out of tonight.

Simmons & Collins at LB makes means the Cards have the athletes to bottle up these RPO systems.

How could it end disastrously?
Wasting a 1st round pick on someone who will probably never be a good QB? I guess that's not a disaster in the larger sense of the world at large, but it's pretty rough for the next few years.
