Lots of new faces. Lots of exciting new players. So, who are you MOST excited to watch and why? Trent Brown and Van Noy are eligible.

I'm going with Jones just because he represents hope that if Cam struggles we may have a better option. All of the tools in the world are useless if you have no arms.

Matt Judon - he is the "ass-kicker" we have been missing at edge since Chandler Jones left. Judon doesn't just set the edge - he collapses it. He is also really smooth in the games the like to play (twists and stunts). I know analysts poo-pooed Judon because a lot of his production came from games but he's damn good at them and he's going to a system, NE, where they use... a ton of games to get pass rush production. I didn't want Judon originally because I felt like he would cost $20m+ a year and he was a tick older. They got him for 13.625m a year. That's insane value for a guy with his skills.

Edit: they needed a guy who was good against the pass and the run on the edge. After being historically bad against the run last year and lacking in pass rush production they got a guy who will immediately help with both.

Since it broke, I've been thrilled by Brown coming back.

He is just such a huge force on the line and helps make everyone else seem better. There are not replacements for that kind of size. Running a rookie quarterback out there seems a little less crazy with Brown in front of him.

How did Rhamondre Stevenson not make the list? Not only is his name awesome, watching defenders bounce off him is pure football pr0n.

I picked Barmore. The Pats have not had an interior defensive lineman that could consistently collapse the pocket since Wilfork left and big Vince was not used as a pass rusher much. I want this guy to be our Chris Jones.

I voted for Jonnu which I thought would be unique, but lo and behold he is the leader.

I think he brings the strongest single improvement to any position between 2020 and 2021

Jalen Mills deserves a spot on that list.

My answer is Mac Jones because, as others have said, he brings hope to the most important position.

I went with Judon. Living in Maryland, I see a lot of Ravens games. I've been wishing the Pats had this guy for several seasons. Can't wait to see what he does on the outside.

Mac Jones. He just put up the best PFF season by a quarterback in college football history. People look at his soft body and meh athleticism and raise caveats and say he can't be that good. I think we're about to find out he is that good.

I have coveted Hunter Henry for a while, so even though he isn't likely to have as much impact as a QB, that wasn't the question.

I went with Mac for the long-term, but for short-term anticipation (since Mac is probably not going to see the field as a starter for some time), it would be Judon and/or Perkins (really interested to see what we've got with him).

I'm on the Barmore train, it has been a long time since NE had someone that had the potential to be dominant on the DL.

I said Barmore because the risk/reward is so interesting. It seems like he could be anything from a 3rd down only guy to Chris Jones.

Interesting to me that Jonnu is getting 3x as many votes as Henry when they're comparable players in terms of production. Also feel like Judon is underrepresented. He could easily be the most impactful player of the bunch and profiles as an exciting player to watch.

Barmore. This D has desperately needed a presence on the interior line and as good as Guy has been this kid could add a huge boost there. He could make the entire front 7 better on his own.

Henry may well be better, but Jonnu could be a lot more fun. Moving around, doing different things, getting carries, etc.

Amazing that we have such a wealth of players to choose from this year - there are great arguments for literally 6 different players (including Rhamondre - awesome handle that one!). Speaks to how undermanned the Patriots were last year - and to BB eking 7 wins out of them.

I haven't voted yet, but almost none of the comments above picked out the WRs, which tells me that BB didn't quite hit on the WR class as well as he could have. But I am with all the Jones posters - from what I have heard and read he will be very good. Was a very sad season without good QB play last year; here's hoping Mac is the answer to that massive gap.

I've seen a few guys compare Barmore to Chris Jones and I keep thinking of Chris Jones the former Patriot and thinking "damn that's really what people are excited about?" then realize it's the Chief's Chris Jones that they are referring to.

Anyway, I'm most hyped about Mac Jones, because hope

Jonnu was my FA binky. And he looks like Superman. I have a man-crush and am going to love watching him score TDs. LFG!

For me, it came down to the Jay’s, Jonnu and Judon. I went with Jonnu since I think he has a ton of untapped potential but Judon may have the bigger impact.

Between the returns of Hightower, Van Noy, the hopeful development of Uche and Winovich, and the draft additions of Barmore and Perkins, I’m pumped. The talent infusion has been incredible to watch.

While I don't expect him to be the best of the bunch or have the longest career, I'm hoping for Stevenson to swat guys out of his way and run mother fuckers over. I want him to be the sort of punishing back that hits harder than he gets hit, the guy whose reputation plants a seed in the mind of defenders.

Mac Jones.

A total of 6 guys have started almost 80% of all Patriots games at QB. Brady (283), Grogan (135), Bledsoe (123), Parilli (83), Plunkett (61), Eason (49). Not a huge number of guys for 62 years of history.

Jones is the next guy up.

I won't be replying on this thread until they add a UDFA or two. I know why they haven't, but I always pick one of those.
In the same vein, I voted Other, because there will be someone that comes out of nowhere to be better (or a better story) than all of these players. My early bet is Raekwon McMillan, but Cam didn't sign until June 28 last year.

Rookies are exciting, but usually arent contributors for a bit.

Judon is a fucking animal and my favorite kind of edge setter. Hes KVN on steroids. He isnt a Von Miller, Cam Wake, or Justin Houston. He doesnt have the kind of explosive pass rushing moves that those guys have.

But hes one of the rare edge players who goes through the progressions the right way and has enough skill to still get pressure. He'll engage at the snap, but keep his space to digest the play and determine run/pass. If it's a run to his side, the edge will be collapsed and he WILL force you in. If the tackle drops into pass protect, he digests that quickly and has a good punch and first step. He's not "pinning his ears back" and selling out for the pass rush. Hes patient, but still effective when trying to get pressure.

Need him to play zone? He can cover the vert hook/hook curl/curl flat/seam flat well. Need to add some layers against a top TE? Dont line the TE up inline, because Judon will punch and chip you off your route.

Hes a COMPLETE player on the edge. He can do it all. Again, hes not going to get you 15 sacks, but with him on one side and KVN on the other, they're edges are well rounded and are positive against the run and pass.

So. Yeah. Judon.

+1. I voted for Henry because he had a ton of receptions last year, and TDs can be so noisy. But Jonnu should get the benefit of not being in the most run-heavy O next season. Judon is my vote for the D. HM for Agholor--a true deep threat. This thread is all the giddy.

The Patriots threw the ball 45 fewer times than the Titans last year, so I'm not sure volume is going to be much of an improvement.

Holy hell, I temporarily forgot that the Pats had Cam last year--I autopiloted to just assuming that TEN Derrick Henry'd their way to being last in pass attempts, when in reality they were 3rd to last (Baltimore was last). Have to think the Pats look for far more balance this year though, regardless of who's slinging it.

Apologies if this distracts from the thread, but I'm curious what people think what will be the bust rate will be from the large, incoming FA group. Because of injuries, fit or money -not all of them are going to work out.

I was going to say one of the TE or MacCorky Corks but folks have convinced me to pick Judon.

However, I am happiest to see Andrews back.

For shits and giggles you should look at the Jests QB history. As mediocre as some of those NE QBs were, they'd be near the top of New York's list.
