This is the type of loss that might make it tough for Buffalo to do well next season. Take the wind out of their sails.
Think of it this way: There's ZERO chance that they'll ever get as good a playoff performance as Allen gave them these two games, and they didn't even manage to make it to the AFCCG.

Two games for Allen:

48-62 (77.4%), 637 yds, 10.3 y/a, 9 td, 0 int, 149.0 rating, 17 rush, 134 yds, 7.9 y/a

They're never getting that again.

Yeah, Bill the GM has cursed Bill the HC with a (very slow), aging roster. If this is how the Bills and Chiefs are going to look for the next few years, the Pats may as well take their time with the rebuild and hope Kelce and Hill have aged out of their positions and the Bills hit salary cap hell by around, say, the 2025 season.
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/cap/

Mahomes cap hit goes from $7.4mm this year to $35.8mm in 2022, 2021 is the last year where it's easy for them to build a team. They'll still have Kelce and Hill on the roster next year but Hill will be a FA in 2023 and IMO he's what really makes their offense tick.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/cap/

For the Bills Josh Allen is only costing them $10.2mm this year and $16.4mm in 2022 before skyrocketing to nearly $40mm in 2023. They have an additional year of relatively easy roster construction left before Allens contract kicks in and things get significantly more difficult.

The cradle of the game.
Review? No, he’s in.
I say it's a catch.
How could this not be a catch
Scrubbing the DVR, there could be an argument that Kelce's left foot was never touching the ground inbounds after re-securing the bobble. It's super close, but I think it's a legit beef.

Hope that's a loss that that franchise never recovers from.
You hate to see it. It's like that's why the NFL gods created them.

Didn't really care who won this game but love to see Buffalo blow it like that. Hopefully that fucks with their heads and their culture crumbles and the team sees McDermott for the angry, turd eating leprechaun he is. Right in time for Allen's huge extension to kick in and they get in cap hell.

If you don't want a coin flip to decide the game, perhaps you should play defense. Just a thought.
The year the Cardinals played in the Super Bowl, they had a shootout in the first round against Green Bay that ended when Rodgers was stripped sacked and the fumble was returned for a TD. I'm sure Cardinals fans feared they were going to lose, but their defense made a play after not doing much all game. It happens.

I think the OT rules are fine in most games, but the flaw is obvious when it's Mahomes vs. Allen and both respective defenses gassed. Short of a bad mistake, game was ending with whoever won the toss.

A Bills fan just messaged me that he wants McDermott gone and Daboll promoted.
He's absolutely disgusted and worried if this team loses Daboll.

Yeah, but how dumb is it when you can win the champions league on penalties.

Just make it based on the clock like the rest of the game.

(Also, make them keep playing til someone scores from open play on the CL)

That was a bunch of crap, because the Cardinals didn't even get a possession in OT. So unfair.

If the Pats are going to compete for an AFC title in the next 3-5 years they are going to need acquire someone like Deshaun Watson. I don't see Mac Jones getting us there after watching these two quarterbacks.

If they didn’t after the Pats did it, why now?
To what? One possession each and the next score wins after that? Because that seems reasonable.
If they were gonna change it, they would’ve after the Pats beat the Chiefs. They’re popping bottles on Park Ave right now.
No way that will happen. This game was an all time classic.
This is the NFL we are taking about. The same NFL that scrapped PI reviews after one season in which it was clear as day that the officials were sabotaging the PI Reviews.

also this game was between two “young” franchise QB’s. (Yes the KC/NE was similar).

The NFL has fully embraced gambling since the NE/KC game as well

all of this is awful - under no circumstances should the pats consider anything like this, especially with Watson

There’s nothing wrong with the current OT format. Everyone knows the rules. Just hold a team to a FG and you get a shot. That happens all the time during the season.

I get the Chiefs hate. But I feel for Bills and their fans.

After decades of irrelevance they escape the Pats shadow only to suffer that kick in the nuts loss.

And tomorrow they wake up in Buffalo.

fucking nightmare.

Why not just continue OT with whichever team has the ball at the end of the 4th? In this case, KC would be kicking off to Buffalo as that would be the next play. Seems silly that a coin gives KC two consecutive possessions.

The optimal format we came up with in the soccer subforum was to conduct the shootout at the end of regulation to determine the tiebreaker, then play 30 minutes of extra time.

Watching the highlights of the Chiefs/Bills game on NFL Network...............unbelievable, what a finish.

That Hill touchdown; he's got another gear, two Bills had the angle on him and he blew past them like they were standing still.

"13 seconds"..................man are the Bills cursed.

I used to think the Browns/Brian Sipe's INT in the end zone vs the Raiders/"The Drive"/"The Fumble" were cursed.

The Bills are more cursed.

And it's not even close.

This is a few years old and who knows if it was accurate at the time, but if so, there's no need to change the rules. This is as close to we'll get to 50-50, and a few high profile examples of teams winning on the opening drive doesn't prove otherwise.

49ers just took out Rodgers with Deebo and defense. The Pats almost certainly aren't going to field that level of defense in 2022, but there are ways to beat the best offenses in the league without having the ball last in a shootout. Here it will start with a better quarterback than Jimmy Garoppolo and one of the best running attacks in the league.

No way should they even think about Watson over Mac.

That seems like it changes end of game strategy too much and then do you do that in the regular season too

Overtime is fine as is.

By the way, what kind of sick twisted demented fucker calls tails?

You only get to complain about overtime rules if you didn’t call it or you called it and called heads.

People who call tails are bad people. It is one of those things in the world that tells you everything you need to know about a person.

Like if a person is a professional clown or mime. You know everything you need to know.

Tails? That was worse than not squibbing. I get that tails comes up as frequently as heads but if you are going to lose the flip lose on fucking heads.

That would completely change end of game strategy if the score is tied. I like a team having to rush if they have the ball in a tie game with just a few minutes left, if the rules were changed to just continue playing there's be absolutely no urgency when the score is tied.

The rule isn't stupid because it gives the coin flip winner a big advantage. It's stupid because it changes the rules of the game at the most crucial time. The goal shouldn't be to make it 50/50. It should be to let the teams play a normal game until a team wins. So this stat doesn't mean anything.

I don't think 10 minutes is long enough to just play an extra 6th of a game. Getting the ball first would still be an enormous advantage. I almost wonder if it shouldn't be something like both teams get to possess the ball, and because having the ball second then would become a large advantage, whoever has it first starts with better field position or something.

I don’t like the 25 yard line for touchbacks in OT.

$50 to the Jimmy Fund if they change the OT rules this offseason.

The OT rules are fine. The Bills lost the game with 13 seconds left when their coach and defensive coordinator both shoved their heads so far up their own asses that they both created singularities. I can’t stand the Chiefs and I see zero chance that they don’t win another Super Bowl in a few weeks. A full off season of listening to the Mahomes is already the GOAT will get old really fast.
