Any thoughts on the new streaming service, NFL+?

Seems like the best features for the $29.99/yr basic service are live local games for cord cutters, live audio for all games, and ad-free access to the NFL library - though I'm not sure exactly what that is.

Premium service for $79.99/yr gives you full game, condensed game, and coaches film replays of all games, all ad-free.

Gotta say this is not the right thread for discussing that.

Wow. It's £150 here in the UK. $80 seems like a steal.

All 22 for 80 bucks might rope me in.

Kyler says he doesn't watch game film.

That's not how you prepare in today's NFL. So I guess that is what the addendum is about.

I would. Tampa signed Kyle Rudolph to take Gronk's spot. Edelman is a few years removed from the game and, if his Insta account is any indicator, is happy his leg is finally healthy. As far as Amendola, He hasn't played with Brady in years and has opportunities on a few networks.

They are done.

From a daily email from The Athletic.

To earn those four hours of weekly credit, the team will monitor Murray’s iPad usage to ensure he avoids activity that might “distract his attention” (actual contract language!) while he does this independent study.
This sounds perfectly fine for a middle-school assignment. I’ll even allow a tightly run college sports program. But this? For adults? Absurd. The amount of suspicion and mistrust baked into this contract — which could default, by the way, if Murray fails to adhere to the homework — is honestly bonkers.

Two true things: It’s a bad look for Murray for obvious reasons, and an equally bad look for the Cardinals, who were concerned enough about Murray’s preparation to put this clause in … but are still paying him $160 million guaranteed anyway.

Good luck to all involved.

I’m not sure if this is a bad look for Arizona. Having a good quarterback is an almost-requirement in today’s NFL and they are simply dealing with the only material option that they have.

They clearly think that him studying his opponents is a big enough dealto chance pissing him off. It looks like their gamble worked out. Though I’m sure that they would have preferred that this leak not occur.

I suppose I understand that they don't have a lot of other choices, but why would you commit yourself to a QB who can't be bothered to do pretty basic things that it takes to win these days, first when you drafted him #1 and now with this contract? It seems a bit like the person in a shitty relationship who says, "Marrying him will change him!" and then "Having a baby will change him!"

I would think that ARI is much happier this leaked now while Kyler is celebrating the $160M guaranteed than in the middle of a multi-game losing streak.

Because Kingsbury and the organization want to win? I mean what are they going to do - since Murray and his gent put the full-court press on the extension.

(1) sign him without the addendum?
(2) not sign him and see what Murray does (is there any doubt Murray would have held out if he didn't have an extension)?

The funniest part will be after Murray loses a couple of games in a row and goes to management, "Hey, the studying is really messing me up. It's making me think on the field instead of just reacting. Can we re-think this?"

They were 11-6 and made playoffs last year. Murray was top 10 in both QBR (7th) and rating (8th). Offense was 10th in pts per drive and 11th in yds per drive.

Seems more like a pretty good relationship but wanting a specific change before committing further. More akin to: "I want to have a baby with you but you need to commit to being home more." Not an unreasonable ask but not a sure thing they will follow through on that commitment.

Theres really not a lot an organization can do. They have a QB whos good. He's not shown a desire to study and get better, but even if he performs at the level hes performed in the past without studying, they can win with it.

You want a perfect employee, but you don't always get one.

Seems like an honest dialogue between Murray and Arizona to me. He doesn't watch game film, the team wants him to start, and they agreed as part of a super-rich contract.

That right there means teams knew, like most of us did, that he would be released. There was no way SF was going to pay $24.5M for the final year and there was absolutely no way a team was going to take on that contract via trade when teams knew he can be had for a few years at half that amount.

I'm sure Julio - not under the pressure of having to be a #1 guy or anything like that - will work out very well for them. He will likely play limited snaps and will be really effective in those snaps. That's how I think it'll go anyway.

Sure would have been nice to see Brady-to-Jones in a Pats uniform a few years ago.

Julio did not look good with Tennessee last year; the burst isn’t there anymore. It would be surprising if he had an Antonio Brown 2020-like run for the Bucs.

The Bucs don’t have much to lose, though. Godwin’s health status is shaky, and they’re counting on a lot of new faces at WR (not to mention TE). If Julio can give them some boundary catches, then he will be a productive player if the likes of Russell Gage aren’t getting it done, even if nobody is game planning for him anymore.

Under for me as well. Julio is pretty cooked. He is pretty much only useful as a jump-ball end zone target since he really can't get separation on routes anymore.

Maybe we should have a catch-all NFL training camp thread for non-Pats stuff, but...

So the cardinals effectively told the world they think Kyler is either lazy or stupid, and now are telling the world they think his skin is too thin to handle criticism. Great work.

As I said before, I’m a Kyler fan/apologist/what have you, but neither team nor player (nor agent!) come out looking great here.

How would an opposing coach tailor his game plan knowing the QB doesn’t study film? Less need to disguise packages and diversify play calls?

Kyler's reaction here: https://sports.yahoo.com/kyler-murray-calls-fallout-from-homework-clause-disrespectful-almost-a-joke-181620232.html

Two immediate questions come to mind that I realize will never get answered but here they are anyways.

(1) Why did Kyler agree to the clause in the first place?

(2) Who leaked the clause? As you mention, it really makes both ARI and Kyler look like idiots. I know Rappaport tried to spin it like it was "win-win" but it really turned out to be "lose-lose."

Amazing.

What I heard is that a lot of people have access to the NFL contracts & it was going to get out/starting to get out so they tried to get ahead of it with the Rap spin.

IIRC basically all front offices and all agents have access to all contracts.

Rap talked about it on the Around the NFL podcast this week. He said that contracts are available to those with certain kinds of NFL access that's not very high level. Apparently he was going through the contract as he does for all big contracts, and was surprised to find it. He doesn't think the Cardinals will blame him for putting it out there because, again, these contracts are not kept very private. It sounds pretty plausible that the Cardinals weren't thinking about the consequences of it inevitably going public.

Depends how overly dependent you are on running the same things all the time. Murray doesn't need much film study to figure that out.

Just like McLaurin's before that and AJ Brown's before that.
Yup. Once the market settles, you have to play ball. Good singing for SF and love seeing guys remain on their drafted team.

(And still annoyed the Pats screwed up that Harry pick so profoundly)
