More from SF beat reporter Susan Slusser in the Chronicle:

"One agent with a client who is close to Judge said he believes that Judge has made his decision and that San Francisco appears to be his destination, while another source said that some Giants personnel are also convinced the team is close to landing the outfielder. But New York broadcaster Michael Kay tweeted that he’d received a text, presumably from the Yankees, that they are still in play. Neither team returned texts Tuesday afternoon; nor did Judge’s agent, Page Odle."

In this market what will Judge get and from whom? My guess is when it all shakes out, SF for something absurd like 12 years / $467M

Cody Bellinger, who has put up OPS+'s of 44 and 78 in 900 plate appearances over the last two years, gets $17.5 million!? This guy's career might be over because of his injuries, but he gets that much money!?

What a country!

Honestly I think he was always using SF to get his price as high as he could with NY, I think he always wanted to come back if the money was comparable.

I’m sure the Giants went in to this knowing there was a possibility they were just being used, but they still had to approach it as serious just in case Judge really did want to be a Giant. Still must be a shitty feeling this morning though.

Man, that's.... a pretty reasonable deal considering all the other madness going on.
Judge to me doesn't seem like a guy that's going to age well. He's going to be hurt and/or bad at the backend of the contract.

It has always just been a silly dance. The only one who didn’t know it was Heyman.

I mean, Aaron Judge is going to sign with the Yankees. I think everyone knows this. Everyone has always known this, no matter how much they may get distracted by this or that.

Not really apropos of anything, but I find it strange that there have been virtually no trades so far during these winter meetings. It's been all FA signings. I suppose that's an effect of waiting to see where the top players land and the big money goes, and then dealing from there, but I don't recall it being this inactive before.

I was thinking about this too, I think it's the FA situation shaking out, but also the rule 5 draft is today, so once that is done, teams have a much better idea of their non-40 man depth.

I think this is most likely the case. I never thought he would leave the Yankees unless the money was significantly different.

Mets in GFIN mode for 2023-2024, I like the move for them. Can’t have all the NY media on the Yankees

I mean, they lost a lot of guys, they are still below their talent level of last year and ATL and PHI are only getting better.

I don't think they're close to done and Verlander, even in his old age, is less of an injury risk than DeGrom.

Atl and Phi isn't that important when you have 3 WC. Look at what Phillies did and they stumbled in September.

Those 3 are in better position in the NL than everyone but the Dodgers and Padres IMHO. As long as no one from the Central gets a WC they're all fine.

So, with Judge signed and Contreras seeming headed to STL, is the top of the food chain Rodon, Senga and the shortstops?

Joe Jimenez nets the Tigers Justyn-Henry Malloy, arguably the Braves' best remaining prospect. Jimenez only has one year left of control, and went through a season and a half (2nd half of 2020 through 2021) where he was a brutally ineffective pitcher until he rediscovered his form last year. Maybe the Braves were in on a bunch of relievers who went elsewhere the last couple days or something and this was their fallback plan, but I would've expected they could get someone more reliable and with more control than Jimenez.
