were there actually a bunch of head injuries on onside attempts the last several years that led to new rules? It’s not like guys are running into each other with a 40 yard head start.

Eliminating the running head start was part of the rule changes for onside kicks.

A rat ran into my house at halftime. Spent the last half trying to kill it, but might be a good luck vermin. I thought the Niners were fucked. WOW

People will spend all offseason killing Campbell but if Reynolds makes any of those three plays—the two drops and the block on the Montgomery run—they are tied or possibly ahead.

Of all the bad decisions the Lions made, that run attempt on 3rd and goal is just mindbogglingly stupid

The chances of recovering an onside kick are so incredibly low these days that you have to keep all three time outs for defense.

Game got too big for Campbell.

100 pct correct
sure but part of the calculus of any “go for it” scenario has to be the players not executing properly so Campbell still deserves a ton of blame

on the road against an arguably (?) better team with an explosive offense, not taking the FG attempt and losing momentum was awful.

where I was last at
Congrats to the forum 49ers and Chief fans

And condolences to the Lion fans.

For the Raven fans I understand TRUE Detective next season will involve finding whoever kidnapped todaysoffensive game plan.

I think the NFL will be the first major sports league to disappear (not any time soon). I think the Lions may actually never make a super bowl

Sorry Lions Fans, as a pre-2001 (since the 70’s) Patriots and RedSox fan, I remember painful losses like this, hang in there, there is hope in your future.

Not Lynn (or Ocean Side)
I don’t have a problem with Campbell going for 4th when he twice could have kicked FGs. The fumble and dropped Reynolds passes were awful for them. Running on the last drive was a poor decision, but the time out was the worst of them all. It reeked of a failure to understand the consequences of a likely outcome (i.e., not making the TD while the clock continued to run) and how (not) to react to that outcome (by calling a desperately needed time out).

I have assumed to this point that Campbell was consulting a football version of a blackjack cheat sheet when making 4th-down decisions. What transpired with that run call and timeout makes me wonder. I’d be interested in whether he addresses that sequence.
