The NFL Combine week opens today. I don't believe drills and such start until Thursday (medicals, interviews, etc. being done now), but the schedule is here:

https://www.nfl.com/network/events/nfl-combine

Biggest news from a Pats perspective (and probably the only big news at the moment) is that neither Caleb Williams nor Jayden Daniels will be throwing in front of scouts at the combine. Both have decided to wait until their pro days:

https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/caleb-williams-jayden-daniels-wont-be-throwing-at-nfl-combine/#:~:text=NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said,Indianapolis to meet with teams.&text=There's no word yet on,will be throwing in Indianapolis.

MHJ will not test and might not appear at the combine at all and Malik Nabers will attend but won't do any testing until his Pro day.

The most important information on the top 3 QB's will be gathered off the field. How they handle the interviews/testing and getting accurate height and weight numbers. Everything else you can pretty much see on tape or get during private workouts in Foxboro where they can customize the drills they want see to make their assessments.

D-line is this afternoon.

Biggest number from the early measurements.... Sweat weighed in at 366, will be fascinating to see the testing numbers at that weight.

Looks like ESPN had him playing last year at 362lbs. Was he expected by scouts to shed a few in advance of the Combine? Just saw his 40 time was 5.27, so still moving pretty good. Guy was a beast in the CFP semifinal game.

Braden Fiske, DL FSU is making himself some money today. I know a few people in here who have mentioned liking him. Big fella can move (4.78 40 yd dash and looked good in the agility drills)

Big day today with the RB/WR/QBs all testing. The latter two are of particular interest but I could see NE drafting an RB in the 4-6 range as well since Rham is going into contract year. A lot of big body types this year to go along with some 3rd down RBs, no Gibbs/Bijan but should be quality depth day 2/3.

He looked good in drills to.

Estime cost himself some $$ by running. 4.74 40 is atrocious for an RB. What is with ND RBs and slow 40s? He probably cost himself a couple draft rounds with that time, that is worse than Kyren ran a couple yrs ago.

Jaylen Wright making some $$ today, 2nd best broad jump ever and a 4.38 40.
He might be a bigger Achane.

Potrero
Holani testing himself into a late round pick.
Will be a steal as a 3rd down back with versatility (if he can stay healthy).

AD Mitchell and Legette with sub 4.0 40s at 6'1"+ and 200lbs+ was impressive for the WRs.
N'Keon Coleman running in the 4.6s isn't great for him.

Mitchell crushed basically everything. Bet he's going 1st round. Would be good for NE as he might push down a OT

Keon Coleman did run an awesome guantlet, Puka had the best guantlet last year. Troy Franklin looked terrible during the guantlet, they are calling him out on weaving way too much.

Joe Milton might have a career as a Hail Mary specialist, he can throw an insane deep ball. Made Hartman look like a HS QB.

I feel vindicated saying I want McConkey and Legette. Before the combine I couldn’t understand why some folks have Franklin, Colman, and even Thomas ahead of them. Only issue is now I fear McConkey worked his way into Day 1. My dream scenario had the Pats moving around R2 and landing both. From what I have seen the only WRs I think are sure picks ahead of them are Nabers and Harrison. Probably Odunze too, but when I see all of these guys on film I’m not so sure about it.

Yes, Coleman’s numbers seemed to show a big difference between “show speed” and “playing speed”.

I think the gauntlet kept him in late 1st, early 2nd conversation

And he ties John Ross on his second go: 4.22!
John Ross is probably the most prolific member of the 4.2X WR class all-time. I think that says more about how little a 4.2X time matters more than anything. Pretty sure getting to the 4.2s has to do with how quickly you can transition from an unnatural starting position to full speed. The next time a football player is starting to sprint from the position they start the 40 run in on the field will be the first.

Other WRs in this club include the much heralded Jacoby Ford, Marquise Goodwin and our own Tyquan Thornton.

I see it more as a red flag on Worthy that he trained specifically for the 40 and didn't bother with any of the drills that a WR would actually find themselves doing on a football field.

OL measurements are coming out.

My takeaways so far:

Amarius Mims is .... HUGE
View: https://twitter.com/MoveTheSticks/status/1764311340233937120

Almost 6'8" 340, arms over 36in.....

Lot of teams might be moving Fu
aga to the guard board:
View: https://twitter.com/MoveTheSticks/status/1764308724187816079

only 33 1/8 arms

Fautanu on the other hand... might stick at tackle, got over 34
View: https://twitter.com/MoveTheSticks/status/1764306358671696073

Fashanu... shorter arms than expected. Hit 34" exactly.

Barton under 33... he's moving inside:

Morgan also clocks in under 33" arm

Question:
As someone with difficulty buying clothing because of his freakishly long arms (37") and somewhat lean frame, do the arm measurements get smaller as you add bulk in the shoulder/chest area? I'm looking at Fautanu and Fashnu where my arms are 3" longer but my wingspan (84") is only an inch or two longer. Is their frame just that much wider than mine? I'm 6'2" for reference.

It's hard to wrap my mind around just how large these men are.

Hold out your arm horizontal, then they measure from shoulderblade to tip of middle finger:

Yeah your wingspan will include your back/shoulders where your arm length does not. I'm basically an optical illusion because I have fairly short arms and am only 5'8" but have a pretty good wing span for my size due to bigger back/shoulders than normal. Found this out when we compared my wingspan to my buddies wife who is 5'10" with freakishly long arms and I had her beat in wingspan by a couple inches. Yes this was a drunken idea to measure.

Damn I thought everybody assumed Morgan would stick at T but does this mean G for sure? Have they done Paul and Fisher yet?

I say this with all due respect to the OT athletes doing the 40 dashes today. Some of you look a bit like you are desperately running to the nearest avalable toilet to take a very unexpected duece.

And to be self aware, I probably look the same or worse, (certainly much less athletic) than all of them when in urgent need to get to the toilet.
