Seemed like a really hard ball to do much with, bouncing as it was and stretching to reach it. Have we seen those converted? Sure. Are the odds good? No.
Only way is to be over it and he had to reach for it which is basically a kiss of death for that technique. Probably spared us Var drama because it really was a push off and either it wouldn’t have been called or we would have had another week of non stop Liverpool fan whining

Maybe he needed to try the toe poke.
This, or just guiding it. He didn’t need power, just accuracy.

Edit: I’m not saying it was particularly easy. Just tired of seeing the ball rocketing over the crossbar from short range today.

Arsenal top...now lets see if they can not fuck it up and keep winning by multiple goals
They've allowed one goal since February and their worst league result since December is taking a point at The Etihad, snapping their two-year long scoring streak at home.

If Arsenal can close their home stretch correctly they’ll be worthy winners. They’ve been the most consistent and have really been solid at the back. Liverpool in this vintage have always been stealing points at the death but have probably relied on it too much this season and probably their points total flatters them a bit. City have been far too vulnerable and have had some puzzling points drops which will prove too costly

I actually think this game encapsulates their whole season … domination, but lacking ruthlessness plus slightly flaky at the back. Of all their injuries I’ve always thought Jota’s was the most damaging. That may have been the bridge too far.

I think any of the top three would be worthy.. just some of us may be a bit sick of seeing City win :)

I haven't looked at the other two team's schedules, but Arsenal play 4 games in 9 days at the end of april (Aston Villa, Wolves, Chelsea amid two games with Bayern Munich).. and another game 5 days later against Tottenham. That's a pretty brutal schedule for any team really... City at least has a bit more depth that could handle it. Will be interesting.

Everyone likes saying City have all this depth but we routinely keep the smallest squad in the league and basically have no coverage in multiple positions. Not to say we don’t have a good bench but it’s hardly different from other top sides and may even be a little lighter.

And SocrManiac edit: meant to type Average Reds we essentially agree on the call on AWB basically being a penalty for being so moronic but I have a funny feeling it would have been an entirely different set of posts if it had been Bruno Fernandes dragging a leg and going over

I haven’t seen the match yet- my 2015s had three outside and one inside and I am utterly barbecued. Reading that it was essentially a repeat of Liverpool domination without a clinical edge suggests it’s not the relaxation viewing I need tonight.

Two VAR overturns in 3 minutes in the Old Firm match, one which gave Rangers a goal and one which took one away from them. So now we get 30 minutes of Old Firm play in which the ref has been totally neutered. This ought to go well.
Just watched this. I thought that ref did pretty well - all things considered. You could see how stressed he was.

Absolute bonkers game - which is what I want for the Old Firm.

I think it could really go any way. Arsenal are best positioned but have the most difficult fixture list and the least experience in these high pressure spots, especially balancing European and league play at the end of a season.

My guess is that all three teams will be completely knackered three weeks from now, especially if all three go to the semis of their European competitions, and its hard to say what happens in those last couple weeks.

Re the penalty incident, it really was a 100% dive by Elliott. Wan Bissaka couldn't have asked for it more but I'm a bit surprised VAR didn't seem to have much of a look. Its very very obvious that there is no contact prior to Elliot deciding to hook his right leg onto AWB and go down. His natural running motion is going to have him stepping over AWB's leg and and you can see the split second when he changes that motion while probably thinking "WTF, this idiot is sliding, I'll just drag the leg and fall."

Yeah I was surprised Teddy was as gracious as he was about it. 100% dive.

United’s lost 7 points in the last 10 minutes of their past 3 games but it’s hard to swallow when 3 questionable penalties go against them.

It was a play stupid games win stupid prizes penalty. The slow motion completely loses the context of how outrageous a decision it was to dive in there. Watching it live there was almost no question that was going to the spot because it violated the “you just don’t do that” principle. I think even if he had got the ball it was going to the spot because it was such an out of the norm thing to try
