The Game Ball Thread: Wk.3 vs Raiders

Onwenu has played 6th OL, RT, and now LG and he’s looked very good in 3 games. I think he has the edge for Patriots rookie of the year over Dugger right now. Who would have thought?

    Onwenu. All day Onwenu.

2020 Pats: The WRs and TEs...Enough?

Yeah one of the traits I look for in a Z is someone who can really dance, shake, make guys miss, break tackles, etc. in the open field. Someone who probably has a good deal of either power or, more likely, elusiveness or a combination of both. That’s something I thought he showed in college and...

The Pre-Game Thread: Wk.3 vs Vegas

Unlike last week I think this is a pretty good matchup for the the defense. Same for the offense. I know he was a rookie but Ruggs dictated a lot of coverage. With him out my only concern is in the trenches vs the run. I think Waller is good but the Patriots won’t give him the kind of cushion NO...

    2020 NFL: Wk.3 Game Thread

It's very early but if you are talking about an edge who could go top 10 it's Gregory Rousseau. Unlike two years ago with Nick Bosa and last year with Chase Young there is no can't miss blue chip guy as of now. Rousseau has all the tools you'd want but he's still a work-in-progress even though...

Nothing like giving up two sacks in a row including getting bullrushed by an undersized linebacker. Jawaan Taylor had a baaaaaaady day at the office folx.

    2020 Pats: Roster & Beyond (non-QB edition)

My eyes tell me you were right but I wonder how much of that was just better blocking in 2018. His yards after contact in both 2018 and 2019 were the same, 2.4. His broken tackle rate was also almost the same 2018: 11%, 2019: 10.9%.

    2020 Pats: Roster & Beyond (non-QB edition)

You and me both. I remember watching him in Athens (my partner is a UGA alum and we visit the family once a year during college football season to catch a game) and thinking if the Patriots got him or Chubb we'd have an offensive weapon. What I didn't realize was by getting Sony he was only...

    2020 Pats: Roster & Beyond (non-QB edition)

Last year Sony ranked near the bottom of the league for yards after contact and broken tackles. This year for RBs who have at least 13 carries (so 100 carries+ in a full 16 game season) he is 33rd of 48 for yards after contact at 1.9 which is worse than last year (small sample size obviously)...

    2020 NFL: Wk.3 Game Thread

There are some guys I am interested in watching. On the Dolphins: Defense: DL Christians Wilkins #94, SS Brandon Jones #29, SC/RCB Noah Igbinoghene #23 Offense: LT Austin Jackson #73, RG Solomon Kindley #66 Aside from Brandon Jones none of them were really guys I was that high on but I liked...

2020 Pats: The WRs and TEs...Enough?

Right - sorry I just meant that those two teams seemed to be a good fit for him. Eagles would have been another one. Not trying to take credit for a total JAG. Just saying that there are teams that are better fits for his skills. In retrospect I could have phrased that better. Apologies.

2020 Pats: The WRs and TEs...Enough?

Stealing some of this from Phil Perry and some is mine. Byrd can actually beat press and work as an X. Dorsett was really only useful as a vertical slot option or as a slot in general. Phil seems to think Dorsett was a more or less linear athlete. Byrd has some sharpness to his breaks. Neither...

2020 Pats: The WRs and TEs...Enough?

I looked at Byrd over the past two games. He's been getting separation and has been open a lot. He didn't get a target in game 1 but got 9 in game 2. I think the rest of the year is going to be closer to game 2 so at least 5+ targets a game. He runs good routes - he has sharp breaks. He isn't...

    RD2 #5/#37: S Kyle Dugger, Lenoir-Rhyne

He has shades of Jamaal Adams to his game. Adams made the same play crashing downhill and stunning Onwenu before making a tackle earlier. Adams also blitzes a lot. The scary part though is that Dugger can play center-field as well while Adams is more of a box safety. Even people who liked...

    RD2 #5/#37: S Kyle Dugger, Lenoir-Rhyne

Dugger: The fact that he has a ton of roles in year 1 blows my mind and yet he's not just impressive for a rookie but for a vet too. Quick mention: He can return kicks! On defense (these won't be exhaustive as I don't count some of his run defense snaps): Covers tight end: 8 (he shut down...

The Game Goat Thread: Wk.2 at Seattle

Something positive for Sony. 1st and 10, 14:05, NE 41 3rd quarter. Nice play by Sony to make Wright commit then bounces outside for 4. He would have had more if 1) Byrd blocked better downfield, and 2) he could get better at getting more yards after contact. I suppose 3) he had better...

2020 Pats: OL-la-di, OL-la-da, Life Goes On, Scar!

Onwenu was their best run blocker yesterday and it wasn't even close. Although the entire line had issues including Onwenu (He did lose some blocks too) check out our first offensive touchdown. 3rd and 1 at the goal. Think Onwenu (71) gets some push? LOL.

The Game Goat Thread: Wk.2 at Seattle

Let's look at a couple of plays on the run game that kind of serve as a microcosm to me for the day. Both are in the first quarter. 2nd and 5 with 2:15 to go in the first. Sony runs right guard: The problem here is Eluemunor has to block Wright and he just doesn't get there. Had he been able...
