Choose Your Own Adventure: Celtics 2020 Offseason

I'm definitely ready to move on from Edwards. Wanamaker, it depends a bit (I think) on whether there is anyone they draft that could serve as a back-up PG and/or whether they think Romeo has any possibility of playing that role. Fall goes back to Maine (I hope).

What does the 2020-2021 Season Look like?

Cross posting from the GH thread. I think they almost have to look at a shorter season. The season is going to start at least a few months later than usual, and I don't think they want to have the playoffs be going to much deeper into the summer than normal. I don't know the right number, but...

Gordon Hayward 2020: I'm standing here in pieces and you're having delusions of grandeur!

Choose Your Own Adventure: Celtics 2020 Offseason

I think I'd trade Smart for a good big and trust that I can find another 3&D wing/small guard in the draft.

Choose Your Own Adventure: Celtics 2020 Offseason

I don't think Smart is untouchable. I know he's a glue guy, and brings a lot to the table. But, at the same time, he is one of the few actually tradeable assets the team has. I'm not at all advocating dumping him, but in the right trade I could see him getting moved.

    What is this team missing?

My feeling was that Smart has, in general, been making better decisions in the playoffs than I remember him doing during the regular season. However, I looked at the stats and his assists per game and assists per 36 actually went down a small amount in the playoffs. He's a polarizing player...

Will he stay or will he go now? Kanter opt-in or out thread

All things being equal, playing for a contender is more fun. But, he's also got to think of business implications and his window of setting up his family for long-term financial stability is limited. Given the detritus that gets double digit contracts, I'd be very surprised if no one will pay...

    What is this team missing?

Can't Kemba Walker be the sharpshooter the Celtics need? I'm really psyched about what we saw out of Brown and Tatum these playoffs. Tatum learning to be a playmaker, and Brown just learning to show up each and every night. Those two make the All-Star team next season, and having two stars in...

Gordon Hayward 2020: I'm standing here in pieces and you're having delusions of grandeur!

Maybe it was just poor luck, but I was surprised looking at the box score how few rebounds he had in the last game. Aside from a few garbage time layups when the Heat were giving up on anything that wasn't a 3PA - he had very little impact in game 6. On the positive side, he should be really...

Will he stay or will he go now? Kanter opt-in or out thread

My $0.02: I think Kanter enjoyed his time on this team, but I think he also sees the writing on the wall. I believe his role next season will be even less than it was this year, which leaves him with little opportunity for a decent contract after next season. His best financial move is to go to...

    What is this team missing?

I agree that the game was lost when Theis came back in, but I think that when he fouled out it was already (at least nearly) over.

Gordon Hayward 2020: I'm standing here in pieces and you're having delusions of grandeur!

I think he'd really be selling low if he opts out and tries to find a long term deal now. I know he got hurt, but it was a pretty underwhelming playoffs for him. If he plays next year and has a solid year, he'll get one last, big contract. Opting out would be pretty much admitting to himself...

    What is this team missing?

I feel like that when he is in the game, the other teams really alter their approach with regards to driving to the basket. He really is an elite shot blocker and I think he could learn most of the other stuff. Grant's wingspan is a 2-3 inches shorter, though. I'd like to see Grant be able to...

    What is this team missing?

There was a lot of crappy play after that as well, but those two quick fouls in the 4th I felt like were the turning point in the game. The Celtics starting panicking and jacking 3s and it as all over. There's lots of good stuff to say about Theis, and I think he was key to winning game 5, but...

    What is this team missing?

On the positive side, I think we saw a couple of real positives in this playoffs: 1) Tatum can really be a playmaker. Not only does he have the ability to score at will at times, he also now seems to have been able to learn to pass the ball as well (his assists have gone way up). 2) Brown...

    2021 Draft

Typical in a 2 player draft the Sox end up with the 3rd pick (or worse). Baseball draft is quite the crapshoot, but college pitchers do seem like the most projectable talent (and an area of severe need for the Sox). As valuable as cost controlled pitching is, you can't just keep trading for it.

    2020 NBA Draft

It's really interesting to me how many of the elite bigs in the league were later draft picks. The most defining feature of a big, height, is the most objective and easiest to measure metric there is. Of course, there are a few circumstances where players grow (Giannis), but probably not that...

    Jaylen Brown re-signs for 4 years/$115 million

He’s been awesome. Very strong and fairly consistent series for him. He’s been an assassin on those corner threes. One small quibble with his game is I’d like to see him get a little better from the line.

    Daniel Theis: More beast per-pound

Really great game. Early in the 3rd I was pissed when Theis picked up two quick fouls. I was starting to think Theis was a regular season player who was unplayable in the playoffs. But his overall contribution to the defense in the 3q won that game, I think. Just seemed to be quite the...
