    COVID-19 and the Red Sox

I'm blocked from the MLB COVID thread, but I was joking. Of course, Fauci is the best source of advice for the pandemic and people who don't play ball sports or are 78 years old, don't throw well. I guess my sense of humor is too dry.

    Covid and MLB

Golf is two players and two caddies and its not necessary to use a locker room. It can't be compared to MLB.

    Covid and MLB

Is there any evidence that the Marlins took a lax approach compared to other teams?

    Covid and MLB

What would the plan be? If a school is opened this fall and an outbreak occurs, it will be closed again.

    July/August game thread

I've often heard the diagnosis of forearm strain, which sounds innocuous, but then it turns out TJ is required. Dusty Baker does sound optimistic, though.

Nothing good ever comes from "forearm strain".

Yeah, I also saw his start and it's troubling he was only at 92-94. That level of velocity will not keep him in the rotation.

    Bard is back!

It's amazing and unprecedented for him to be able to comeback. Here's a paragraph from an SB article regarding a start in the GCL in early 2018. The writer believed it was the last time Bard would ever pitch in a game: "The results, as they so often had been since that last major league...

    July/August game thread

When I'm watching a game with cardboard cutouts in the background, I find it hard to be too offended by the new extra inning rules. An improvement would be to have cutouts of the people on the Beatles Sargent Pepper's cover, behind home plate.

Let’s predict the 2020 Red Sox record

I see the starting pitching to be an absolute train wreck. There will be 2-3 be planned and/or defacto bullpen games every time through the rotation. I don't say this from a doom and gloom perspective. I'm happy to finally seeing some MLB and will be watching a clean shaven Cole take on...

Let’s predict the 2020 Red Sox record

The various Power Rankings list the Sox from 18 to 20th and the odds makers at 20th, all of which would indicate a sub-.500 season. The Sox best chance for making the playoffs would have been if every other team had had two starting pitchers opt-out.

And the dreaded West Coast trip.

Andrew McCutchen: Yankees’ hair policy ”takes away from our individualism as players and as people.“

Everyone in MLB and their brother has grown a beard and even guys like Mookie that can't grow a good one still grow something. A long time ago, it was side burns, then it was mustaches and it's time to move on from beards. I applaud the Yankees for not yielding to "Monkey see, monkey do". I...

Cleveland Indians ready to discuss changing team name

Noted. I'm a fan of the Cal Bear(s), anyway.

Cleveland Indians ready to discuss changing team name

In 1981, the Stanford University mascot was changed from the "Indians" to the "Cardinals". Except for some alumni who would periodically petition for the name to be changed back, it was a non-event. If the minority involved is offended by a team name it should be changed and I'll be fine with...

MLB 2020: We're Playing, but We Can't Agree on Anything

I looked it up; there have been 5 forfeits since 1970. Three were from fans storming the field which seems unlikely this year. A 4th was from fans who received baseballs at the gate and were winging them on to the field, which also seems unlikely to happen this year. The other was from...

David Laurila interview with Don Buford

Don Buford about living in Lincoln, NE: "They weren’t renting apartments to African Americans. I ended up staying with a family. The lady’s name was Miss Botts. She was the representative of Aunt Jemima Pancakes. She had a basement apartment and I stayed in her home." That's quite the coincidence.

Would you feel safe attending a game at Fenway tonight?

There was recently a campaign rally that didn't attract a "crush" of people. There had never been an empty seat prior to that that one.

Would you feel safe attending a game at Fenway tonight?

    That's exactly what I'm saying.
