    Celtics 20-21 Roster Construction

Exceptions are not counted towards the luxury tax until they are used.

    Celtics 20-21 Roster Construction

There is one line the Celtics do not want to cross, and that is the luxury tax line. There is a 2nd line the team cannot cross, and that is the apron that is roughly $6M above the luxury tax line. They cannot cross the apron because they used the full MLE to sign Thompson, so they are...

    2020 Pats: Cam Can't Cook

What's ironic is that the above is a basically an "open secret" among the league's coaches. And they don't exactly keep it a secret, but it's too uninteresting for the Volin's and Shank's and Bedard's to write about.

    2020 Pats: Roster & Beyond (non-QB edition)

I cannot make a compelling case that Harry will become a regular NFL starter. However, nobody can make a compelling case for cutting him at this point either. The Pats are not making the playoffs, the money is a sunk cost, as is the draft pick, so may as well see if he can still salvage...

    2020 Pats: Roster & Beyond (non-QB edition)

Thankfully, Bedard is not the GM. Harry is not getting cut, nor should he. The season is lost, so throw him out there and see what he's got when he's healthy. He is at the very least going to be given one more training camp to catch on.

Tatum got the bag(5 years, $195 million)

Regarding Tatum's player option year: it allows him to become a SuperMax (35%) player a year earlier than if he signed a guaranteed 5 year extension. 5% of $120 million (likely more) is not nothing, and that's assuming the max and super-max provisions are kept as they are in the next CBA.

Tristan Thompson to Boston: 2 years, $19M, player option to re-up with Khloé Kardashian

I know it's fashionable to pooh-pooh rebounding these days, but in way rebounds are like stolen bases. Yes, volume rebounding is overrated. But a rebound in a key situation in a playoff game can make a big difference, much like The Stolen Base did in 2004. Somebody needs to replace Kanter's...

    Celtics FA/Trade Rumors and News

The TPE from a Hayward S&T could come in handy at the trade deadline, where it is less likely to push them into luxury tax territory.

The Game Goat Thread: Wk.11 at Houston

Newton came off a pretty good week against the Ravens, and started the game strong (3-4 for 58 yards in the first drive). He didn't do much after that until the 3rd quarter, but it was really the D that was the culprit, and Newton was probably their best chance of coming back from the 21-10...

C's pick Aaron Nesmith #14 overall

Most of the negativity seems to be coming from a twitter troll. Not sure it's meaningful.

Carry on my Hayward Son: Gordon to Charlotte for 4 years, $120M

The only downside for Charlotte is that they would be hard-capped, but I don't believe that's really an issue for them, as I don't think they would have any chance of passing the apron anyway. Technically, Hayward is not obligated to agree to a sign-and-trade, but as long as the cost to...

Tristan Thompson to Boston: 2 years, $19M, player option to re-up with Khloé Kardashian

The bolded makes zero sense. However, it's clear you view his talents very differently than I do; I think he's a far better player than just a "backup center", but YMMV.

Tristan Thompson to Boston: 2 years, $19M, player option to re-up with Khloé Kardashian

Thompson was getting full MLE from some team. Saving a couple of million in salary and ending up with a player far worse but more efficient from a payroll perspective doesn't do it for me. Thompson is getting nowhere near the money of either Hayward or Morris, so your analogy doesn't hold at all.

Jeff Teague: 1 year deal with the Celtics

Correct. Waters is restricted free agent. I think they're limited to roughly $1.5M in terms of matching, but could be off $200K-$300K or so.

    Celtics 20-21 Roster Construction

As noted in the other thread, there are few players left in the MLE pool. And there is no way Thompson was going to get less than that from some team. The Celtics don't have the roster space to split the MLE anyway, and they will be below the luxury tax, so the money doesn't really matter...

Carry on my Hayward Son: Gordon to Charlotte for 4 years, $120M

No, because Indiana had no cap space. They could have used their MLE of $9M to a 1 year deal, signed him to 120% of that in his second year ($10.8), and 175% of that in his 3rd ($18.9M), and no limit on his 4th year. But there is no way Hayward would have signed up for that, given that he...

Tristan Thompson to Boston: 2 years, $19M, player option to re-up with Khloé Kardashian

Does it matter given the way the NBA works? TT made a lot more than MLE money his last contract. And there's still plenty of teams with full MLE to spend and not many players to spend it on. Celtics don't have roster spots to split the MLE, and it's unclear who's available that could fit...

Jeff Teague: 1 year deal with the Celtics

Short money and he is probably better fit on the team than Wanamaker.
