RedSox have been in serious trade talks with multiple teams about OF Andrew Benintendi

If I recall correctly, Ozuna is only passable defensively? Personally, I'd rather keep Beni - I think he can still figure it out.

Who should start for this team in 2021?

Assuming its a salary dump and we're not giving up any prime prospects, I'd be in on Wheeler. He'd be a great #2 and would definitely give the rotation a boost. All I know is we have to do something with the rotation, because it was total ass last season.

Might as well start talking about 2021

You know, this is a legitimate idea I didn't consider. Assuming Bauer sticks to his 1-year deal philosophy, I say why not? A rotation consisting of Sale, Bauer, E-Rod, and Eovaldi could be excellent if all the pieces fall into place.

Might as well start talking about 2021

Curious about the George Springer bit. He's 31 and a good player, but his age does not seem to mesh with our current team trajectory. Plus, although he is better overall than JBJ, he will also cost more. Not to mention the potential money they allocate towards Springer will give them that much...

Might as well start talking about 2021

I know you posted this weeks ago, but I think this question is even more relevant now. Benintendi has had a very bad year, apparently the team is even shutting him down. I'm thinking he'll have pretty low trade value so it makes sense to hold on to him and see if he can regain his form next season.

    Red Sox Trade Deadline Thread

I would have suggested the idea of JDM to Washington early on in the season, but after what's happened to Washington as of late with Strasburg's injury, I can't see them being in win-now mode still. Definitely if it was a regular season, but not now with the shortened season.

Rosenthal: Mookie and LAD in agreement: 12/$365

This stings big time but I'm happy for the guy and his family. Amazing player and a class act all the way. Good luck, Mookie!

How will the Sox do in 2020?

I don't think we'll make the playoffs, I'm going with about 79 wins. I think the offense will be good but I'm concerned about the rotation and bullpen. We lost a lot of rotation depth and our shaky bullpen went unaddressed, so I think that will bite us in the ass this year. Still, we have the...

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

Well, this is a damn shame. I was actually fine with getting Verdugo because I think highly of his talent, but this is all new to me. What an absolute bummer to trade an amazing and loved player for a lazy asshole. Ugh!!!

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

I'm not as worried about the offense, because I'm quite high on Verdugo, but our rotation is looking like shit. I hope they have a plan for that rotation, because losing both Price and Porcello is big.

    Thank you Mookie Betts

I hope he comes back as a free agent but won't blame him at all if he goes somewhere else to maximize his money. One hell of a player, didn't believe this would happen.

Sox talking Mookie trade with Dodgers, Padres - News & Discussion

Its going to suck if we trade the 2nd best player in baseball, but if they don't think they can re-sign him then I'm for it. Hopefully we get May and Verdugo from LAD, I'm not expecting them to include Lux in any package.

    2018-19 Offseason Thread

Is Kelvin Herrera going to be playing at all this upcoming season? Could be a decent recovery project for 2019. I can't see this happening because we have other players who will require extensions soon. Its a solid idea but I assume the front office wants to free up money for potential Betts...

    2018-19 Offseason Thread

I could see a team splurging on Kimbrel though. I'd be surprised if his price goes down enough that we are able to sign him on a good deal.

This is the best Red Sox team...ever.

Well done, team. Well done indeed.

    Rework JD Martinez contract?

As much as I'd love for the guy to earn more money, it doesn't make sense given his age. If he opts at around age 32-33 or so, then we've gotten two amazing years out of him. We are better off using that money to extend our young core OR go after young offensive players (Machado, for example)...

    The offseason heading into 2018

Would McCutchen solve our power issues, though? Sure, we'd have a deeper and more well-rounded lineup, but he's not a power hitter in the vein of, say, JDM. I might bite if DD didn't already deplete the hell out of the farm, but not sure I would in this case.

Winter Meetings 2018: Rumors and Speculation

I get where you're coming from, but I'm not sure Upton is an otherwise better player as you say. Martinez has him beat in average oWAR the last 5 years (3.52 > 2.74), and is a better on-base guy, even if slightly. As for defense? This is where Upton should get the edge, but he was apparently...

Let's get crazy (risky acquisitions and offseason plans)

Agreed with the above, its ridiculous to trade prospects AND absorb Stanton's deal in its entirety. Even if JDM gets $200M, at least we don't give up any prospects. Is Stanton really ~$125M better than JDM? Still, I'd rather sign Carlos Santana and be done with it.

Let's get crazy (risky acquisitions and offseason plans)

Yeah, like, that deal is too crazy. Stanton at max dollars, older Cabrera at max dollars, Price at max dollars, but what else? That trade would probably kill the team for a few seasons. No offense meant at all, its just too bonkers even for this thread.
