    Pats defense: Ongoing discussion

I like what PFF is doing in theory — they’re trying to isolate performance from outcome — but I think it’s an impossible task without at least understanding the context of each play. The question should be: “does this player effectively do what is asked from them on this play?” That takes the...

Red Sox sign James Paxton- 1/$10m+ 2yr club option

Right. But the way pitching is handled these days is so different that I'm not sure the comparison applies (exactly). I have to admit that I've given up second guessing decisions that the Red Sox make, largely in recognition of their massive advantage in resources and willingness to use them...

Red Sox sign James Paxton- 1/$10m+ 2yr club option

I always remember the late Duquette teams as having pretty good pitching and average hitting once park factors were considered. Obviously having Pedro was a huge part of the former, but the reclamation guys definitely held the back half of the rotation together. Where that approach failed was...

The Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones Thread

That mostly tells me that predicting future outcomes in the NFL is extremely hard. As an aside, I’m really enjoying this discussion, you guys.

    Enes Kanter Freedom to Boston

I’m generally supportive of Kanter’s politics, the guy is coming from a totally different place and isn’t going to approach American politics in the same way, nor should he. I’d imagine his first priority is fixing the issues plaguing Turkey (without putting too fine a point on it). He’ll need a...

    Jaylen Brown, The Vet Years

My biggest concern with Jaylen is that he's played <60 games the last two seasons and is likely to do that this year as well. He hasn't been healthy for a number of the games that he has played and at some point this becomes just part of the package. That's where trade considerations come in...

OK, I am going to ask the question: Has BB lost his fastball?

You just wrote what many were thinking. There’s going to be a day where the ride ends. We all know this, although it’s obviously not here yet.

    Enes Kanter Freedom to Boston

I have to be honest, the name change is concerning to me.

    Week 12 NFL Game thread

That was a wild ending entirely befitting of two not very good football teams.

Analysis of Celtics Games, '21-'22 Season

This team reminds me of the Pitino Celtics.

Shams: Celtics "engaged in conversations" with 76ers for Ben Simmons

Yeah, not a chance. The Sixers would have to include Danny Green just to match salaries, and I’m not sure they’d take Westbrook over Green straight up at this point.

    Celtic off-court discussion

Yeah, you can't count on non-lottery picks breaking out. Most of those guys don't get second contracts. Getting rotational pieces is a good outcome there. Plenty of folks have written obituaries for contenders that traded a bunch of those picks for even competent veterans but that's exactly...

    Celtic off-court discussion

Perhaps the biggest missed opportunity for the Celtics (and a whole bunch of other teams) was not taking a chance on Chris Paul when he was getting traded for table scraps.

    Celtic off-court discussion

Bontemps is a local guy, according to this. He's been covering the Atlantic Division for a while. Morey is quite possibly a source. Probably some former scouts and coaches, too. The content doesn't really matter. You could write something like this, much of it true, about pretty much every team...

    Pats sign LB Matt Judon

Dude Dude is fucking right, macaroni and cheese is a bullshit Thanksgiving side. Also, most people ARE lactose intolerant to some extent, although I don’t know how much lactose is left in cheese.

Analysis of Celtics Games, '21-'22 Season

Schroeder reminds me a bit of Rondo defensively. The physical attributes are there, and the effort is often there too, but the freelancing and risk taking is pretty deleterious to team defense. Looks great when he picks pockets though.

Home, home on the Range (looking for a Range).

Just out of curiosity, I peeked at induction cooktops at Best Buy and IKEA. Both had delivery for December 1 (!). This is Pittsburgh, though. Could be harder in a larger metro.

A stove costs 6 large now? Holy shit! I think we bought our IKEA-badged Whirlpool for a shade over 1 grand. I know that’s not for everyone.

Analysis of Celtics Games, '21-'22 Season

It feels like the Celtics could really use one more shooter. I was hoping Nesmith could fulfill this role (partially) but 1 missed attempt isn’t going to cut it.
