Sleuth out who Bill James is talking about - 2011 Sox

Not sure about the others, but I'll give it a shot: racist: Schilling/Buchholz/Beckett -- I mean given his history combined with the power of hindsight; I just have hard time seeing anyone else than schilling as the obvious pick here. Clay Buchholz met his wife through Trump; half his wedding...

    Week 18 game thread?

They were running out of time on the clock and didn't have a play dialed up?

that was an...interesting play call for 4th down -- as opposed to just sneaking it for half a yard congrats, @Deathofthebambino

    Week 18 game thread?

Vikings just scored, so @Deathofthebambino , you'll make the over here. Bears will comeback to at least tie it, somehow. Its just how Zimmer rolls.

The Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones Thread

Absolutely. Brady, Rodgers, and Mahomes had the opportunity to spend at least a year studying under greats like Favre, Belichick, and Reid. They played in practices against NFL-caliber teams for two years before seeing the real game. Mac Jones had a single pandemic-shortened pre-season by...

    Week 18 game thread?

oh, then yeah he's good. Vikings have no D and play better when trailing.

    Week 18 game thread?

It's the second half -- if the vikings aren't up by like two scores by the end of the first, they are usually screwed

The Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones Thread

    By what metrics? https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2021/passing.htm ANY/A -- 17th NY/A -- 14th Y/A -- 15th TD % -- 14th Int % -- 18th Comp % -- 8th QBR -- 10th QB rating -- 16th He's had some peripheral stats crack the top-ten like completion percentage, otherwise, he's been very...

    2022 coaching carousel

Having moved to Minnesota and watched most of the vikings this season (out of quarantined boredom), I have to say I'm stunned by how many times Zimmer appeared to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The defense is a mess, but the offense is what has me puzzled more than anything. To wit...

12/6 - Patriots at Bills: Age Quod Agis

They are averaging close to 7 yards per attempt against an 11 man box. Why bother passing and risk a pick in this wind/ice? even if Mac throws bullets, its probably like catching an ice brick. Meanwhile, Allen's averaging 4.6 yards per attempt.

That's even crazier. Crazy like a fox.

11/28 - Titans at Patriots: Oh the Humanity!

He's making some laughable takes and doubling-down. "The way this game has gone, Tennessee has to think its gone as well as they've could've hoped". No Charles, Tennesse hoped to be ahead by the half.

    Red Sox Offseason discussion

I don't think the red sox need more than a couple of left-handed platoon bats for 2022 that can play multiple spots (like Miller)-- and admittedly I don't even think of him as an SS. 2023 and 2024 are the only gap years for SS, (Marcelo Mayer probably arrives in 2025) -- so signing someone for...

    Red Sox Offseason discussion

Given the QO, I would pay 30 million more to sign Baez over Taylor. Of course, both being right handed bats, their signings don't make a lot of sense . Someone like Brad Miller on a cheap 2-yr deal (left-handed SS; career 113 wRC+ against righties) makes a lot more sense, but may only happen...

    Red Sox Offseason discussion

Yup -- he's been the best SS in baseball over the past few years, with Xander close behind him (Correra and Seager are barely top-third, I wouldn't touch either of them). Personally, I think Semien is the best SS on the market. He probably gets the highest AAV for an SS.

    Red Sox Offseason discussion

Except Seager hasn't had 600 PA since 2017 -- Correra has had two seasons in his career over 600 PA. As a result, Carlos Correra has only three MVP-caliber seasons, and only one in the past four years. Corey Seager hasn't had an MVP-caliber season since 2017. I'd take Siemien at four years over...

    JD: In or Out?

I said "opt-in", but I'm not really a hard yes/no -- especially when it comes to individual decisions where so many unknown factors may be involved.

    Red Sox Offseason discussion

Kris Bryant is a streakier hitter than Schwarber, with multiple 30 game running average peaks of 200+ wRC+ and troughs of 50 wRC+ -- on average he has been better, but he ended the year extremely poorly. The knock on Schwarber is that he's rarely been healthy. The problem with Kris is that he...

    Red Sox Offseason discussion

This seems like the best balanced plan for next year. I would also kick the tires on a Devers extension to plan for Devers needs, or just to see if Bloom gets lucky and can lock Devers up long term. #4 is critical. I'm not sure if Whitlock and Houck are effective the third time through the...
