16 Days in January—Determining Trade Deadline Activity

It's really unfortunate that Langford's potential is still so theoretical at this point. Sending him to Indiana would be great as part of a package for Sabonis.

Move Horford for another center so we can continue the 2Big lineup?!? Ugh, I hope not. They do utilize Horford on the floor without Rob now, I don't see why they can't just split the C minutes between the two.

It's also just a stupid way to manage things, especially in basketball. In football, where every game is a pretty big deal - would be slightly more defensible. You really want a basketball coach to be considering every game like it's their last? Just seems like a really dumb way of managing things.

Celtics acquire Bol Bol, PJ Dozier for Juancho Hernangomez

If I'm understanding this right, Boston got rid of Hernangomez without giving up any assets. Other than the fact that you lose his potential salary ballast, this seems like a no brainer. What I'm struggling to understand is why anyone took Hernangomez without receiving any assets.

It's certainly not exactly "Sophie's Choice" but which of the following would you prefer as a fan? OPTION A: Celtics more or less stand pat at the deadline. Maybe they staple a 2nd rounder to Hernandgomez to make sure they are under the tax. Celtics finish the season with around 41 wins, win...

Analysis of Celtics Games, '21-'22 Season

I don't recall AN having injuries. RL for sure, and that was also RW's situation the last couple of seasons - every time there was an opportunity for more playing time, there was an injury.

I enjoy TL as a fan, certainly, but he's far from untouchable in my opinion. I just don't see his ceiling being much higher than he is, and I think he has a pretty low floor given his injury risk. He's a good passer, and he's a good rim runner, and I think he could potentially develop a 10 foot...

The analytics of NBA coaching challenges

It’s not the same thing, of course, but there are some parallels with the idea of using your best closer early in a game vs. saving him for a late game situation which may not be high leverage anyway.

Analysis of Celtics Games, '21-'22 Season

One thing I've been pleased with is that in the last handful of games, they have been using Rob Williams throughout the game on offense. It's an extremely efficient play to use him as a rim-runner, and to sprinkle in 10-14 easy points from the TimeLord just really takes some of the weight off of...

Here's a thought experiment, if Simmons took as many threes as Smart, but shot them at 30%, would people think he's better or worse player than they do now?

Analysis of Celtics Games, '21-'22 Season

The challenge is, having Horford open for a 3 has not turned out to be a good strategy this season. I don't know what happened, but he's been atrocious from behind the arc this season and it doesn't really seem to be getting better. Maybe he's better in the corner, seems like a lot of his...

I think the idea would be to trade Smart for some assets, combine what you get back with other assets, and then you trade the whole package for a star.

Analysis of Celtics Games, '21-'22 Season

It's an incredibly dangerous position to take, because - let's be honest - the guy wasn't Kobe Bryant as a player. At some point the players could very easily say "Who the heck are you to be judging me?". The marketing leading up to his hire was all about how he would have humility as more of a...

Analysis of Celtics Games, '21-'22 Season

In general, I think blaming people for not having "toughness" - in most circumstances, is both stupid and wrong. In my opinion, it's not that the team is soft or doesn't try hard. It's that they don't have a very good strategy at the end of games.

Analysis of Celtics Games, '21-'22 Season

One thing I thought was pretty interesting, during the game there was a segment from Abby where she led off by saying that Ime was "holding himself accountable", and then they put up the quote. I'm paraphrasing here, but the quote was basically "there have been times when the players lacked...
