Explaining baseball’s next experiment to limit shifts: The ‘pie-slice rule’

I prefer a simpler penalty: an infielder starting in the pie zone cannot be the first fielder to touch the ball. If he does, it's automatically a single, and all runners advance one base. An outfielder can move in for a fifth infielder, but that will be the only exception.

    NBA Finals Game 6--Resiliency

They’re down 15 at the half, and I’m still not conceding the game. The Celtics have another big run in them!

How to get back in this thing

My theory is the Yankee Stadium sits on top a hellmouth, and the team is drawing energy from that. Damn Yankees!

    Celtics vs. Warriors, NBA Finals

This series has a remarkable consistency about it. The Warriors have scored 108, 107, 100, and 107 points so far, with the bulk of the scoring coming from Steph, Wiggins, Klay, and Poole. The Celtics are consistent with their 3-point shooting (40-37% outside of Game 1, where they shot 51%). The...

    Celtics vs. Warriors, NBA Finals

After watching Green's foul on Jaylen, I see it more like Draymond trying to get under Jaylen's skin than anything else. I think this exposes one of the Celtics' weaknesses: some of them are easy to get upset. Sometimes the best revenge is stoically making their shots and not giving in to these...

    Celtics vs. Warriors, NBA Finals

Actually 9-1. Durant played one game in the 2019 Finals in which the Warriors won by 1. They were down 1-3 and trying to stave off elimination. He played 12 minutes and scored 11 points, and I guess he was too hurt to play any mow than that.

Celtics vs. Heat, Round 3 Discussion

Last night's game showed why the Heat are a formidable opponent. Their winning formula seems to be: 1. Force as many turnovers as they can by disrupting the passing lanes. 2. Shoot lights out from 3. 3. Jimmy Butler driving, scoring, and drawing fouls. All three were on display last night. If...

Celtics vs. Heat, Round 3 Discussion

This seems to follow a familiar pattern: the Celtics (esp. Tatum) put up one stinker early in the series that seems to wake them up and have them playing tough basketball the rest of the series. Game 3 may turn out to be their worst game.

Celtics vs. Heat, Round 3 Discussion

The Heat took 22 more shots than the Celtics tonight. They also had 15 fewer turnovers (8-23). Still, the Celtics managed to get within one point late in the game before falling back at the end.
