Final report on my son's trip. He had 75 today with no birdies. Hit the ball great and putted well but couldn't get anything to drop. Had lunch in the clubhouse and Scottie took the table next to theirs. As they packed up from their cabin they watched Speith and Scottie play as they went by...

Damn impressive performance - sounds like a great match play match. Anyone who is two down on the 15th tee and brings it back to square the match is a force to be reckoned with. My son had 84 at Pine Valley yesterday with four doubles down the stretch. One of his teammates had 75, and there...

My 19yo played Oakmont yesterday from the Open tees and shot 76. He said it was surprising to find heaven in the rust belt. Today and tomorrow he'll play at Pine Valley. This could easily go in the "brag about your children" thread for sure.

@Dave Stapleton you are not alone. Last week I had a 43-35 split in a round. It sounds like you are really close to putting it together. @FL4WL3SS - would love to hear about your round with Olin Browne when you have a chance. @Doug Beerabelli - thanks for the comments on the college search...

Nice round OGG! My oldest wants to do aerospace engineering and knew he didn't have the length to compete DI, but we encouraged him to still take golf into the equation when choosing a school. College is a huge adjustment and having to essentially give up golf would have made it even more...

He's at VATech. Huge school - his freshman class was 8,000 kids. They play a fall and a spring season. The cost is reasonable - $250 per semester. There are about 150 kids who are officially in the golf club, and they have to play a round each week as the qualifier for weekend tourneys. But...

I had my best round of the year at Sunday River yesterday. Played the front side with my 16yo before his range picking shift. He wanted to play the black tees for our $10 match play match - mostly because its "baller" to play the blacks in front of folks on the practice green and the deck...

    2022 PGA Tour

I was there for the Tuesday practice round this year and it was totally worth it (even though thunderstorms shut everything down and we had to leave the grounds early). Just walking the grounds, hitting the merch shop, having a pimento cheese sandwich and spending the day on the course was an...

That's a cool encounter. My kids (19 and 16) recently caddied in the Korn Ferry tournament when it was in town. The eldest was on the bag for Tom Lewis, the 16yo for MJ Maguire. Tom Lewis was paired with Harry Hall (the English version of Bryson). Their pros couldn't have been more different...

@Conigliaro's Potential - that was a fun read and must have been a fun match. It is amazing how late you can play in Scotland!

My kid recently introduced me to a term for this - apparently going from bunker to bunker is a "Bin Laden"

This is fantastic - and a great way to get him even more experience with the game. I played with my son at our local men's league Tuesday night and it was an absolute blast. It's nine hole, two man better ball competition where you earn points for wins, half a point for halves. We're in the A...

I absolutely love that (three of) golf's majors include amateur players. I'll be watching Michael now as well!

2022 US Open (Golf) - The Country Club in South Brookline, MA

One of the amateur qualifiers is a 20-year-old from Topsham, Maine named Caleb Manuel. I'd love to see him do well this week. My oldest kid was a year behind him in high school and was paired with Caleb in the final group for the individual high school state championships when Caleb was a...

It's really awesome being able to share the game with your kids like that. Not that you need to hear it from me, but you might consider signing her up for drive, chip and putt next year. My kids have done it for the past few years and had a blast. It can be a real time suck if they make...

One of my greatest successes as a parent is getting my kids into golf. My oldest won the individual state championship his senior year of high school and the middle kid made top ten in the state high school tourney this past fall as a sophomore. Oldest has played in men's league the past few...

Snorkeling the Gnar Pow: Skiing 2021-22 Thread

From what I'm hearing about Snowshoe it basically has it's own microclimate. It's so great to see there's a solid ski resort in an area that might not otherwise allow for the opportunity. As someone who basically hangs around one place exclusively I love hearing about your trips. We have our...

I hear great things about Snowshoe - it's suprisingly good. It's been in the 60s in Blacksburg but 20 at Snowshoe and there is plenty of snow. I also hear the parks are really good too.

Snorkeling the Gnar Pow: Skiing 2021-22 Thread

Apparently Snowshoe is a pretty legit ski hill and has decent snow. And I was talking to a guy last night who does the Sprinter van thing for Saddleback in Maine and swears by it. Skiing can be really expensive so it's great hearing that people find ways to make it more accessible. I'm pretty...
