    ALCS Game 4: Tanaka Time

    1. Sweeny Murti reports that NY would not be allowed to replace Stanton with a pitcher, only a position player. 2. Buster Olney, who was a Yankee beat reporter for a while, just tweeted: "As windy at Yankee Stadium as I can remember on a game day. Flags above the stadium are snapping. Balls...

    The DD Replacement. Who's Next?

Chad Jennings said a couple days ago in The Athletic that she is the one of the four who doesn’t want the top spot. “Ferreira seems mostly uninterested in the head decision-making responsibility.”...

    ALCS Game 4: Tanaka Time

Jim Thome said on MLBN that since the Astros pitchers are all living on the outside part of the plate to righties as well as just off the plate, most of the NY RH batters should move closer to the plate so they can better cover those pitches. Seems simple and obvious but could also be effective...

2019 ALCS - Yankees vs. Astros - General Gamethread

In fact, you're probably right and they start Verlander in game 5 anyway, I should know better than to ever think seriously about something Al Leiter suggests. I do think if NY somehow wins the next 2, they will have a really hard decision for game 6 and they will end up using Cole on short...

2019 ALCS - Yankees vs. Astros - General Gamethread

Verlander is better at home (2.34 ERA, 2.82 on the road) and would have an extra day of recovery before what would already be his fourth postseason start. I'm not saying they would do it, but I can see both sides.

2019 ALCS - Yankees vs. Astros - General Gamethread

Yes, if you are up 3-2, everything is different from being down 3-2, especially if you have aces like Verlander and Cole. It's the opposite rationale because the series situation is opposite. And it's really not clear that Verlander on one day's rest is something HOU would want to try, when he...

2019 ALCS - Yankees vs. Astros - General Gamethread

No, but there's no reason to think you know any better either. There's no reason to debate it either, you have an opinion and Passan and I have a different opinion, but we're not going to know unless NY goes up 3-2. Also Al Leiter raised a good point (unusual for him) on MLBN last night, which...

2019 ALCS - Yankees vs. Astros - General Gamethread

I don't think it will happen so we will never know, but Jeff Passan agrees that this is what would happen in his just published overview: "Yankees win Game 4, win Game 5: Panic time for the Astros. With their season on the line, they likely move up Cole to start Game 6 on three days' rest to...

    ALCS Game 4: Tanaka Time

Weather looking crazy tonight, no rain but temps feel like they're in the 40s and wind gusts up to the 40s.

So their answer to this is to do their best not to get down 3-2 by starting Verlander on full rest in game 5. I think this is the right move but the real issue is if NY somehow does win two and goes up 3-2, HOU then kind of has to start Cole on 3 days rest in game 6 or risk the series ending...

    ALCS Game 4: Tanaka Time

Also there is a little bit of a misconception that NY has already been burning out their top relievers, and it really isn't true so far if you look at the recent bullpen usage chart (the columns are missing a line of zeros for today). https://www.baseballpress.com/bullpen-usage Everyone on...

    ALCS Game 4: Tanaka Time

So after two dispiriting losses in a row, the NY fan base is already looking for people to blame, even though they are one of just three teams left alive. It seems like NY is in an inescapable hole with Verlander/Cole lined up for one more start each, but a win tonight puts the pressure back on...

    Managing Carousel 2019

These seem to be the Mets candidates as of now, at least the known ones. "Girardi is one of six known Mets managerial candidates. The others: Yankees special adviser Carlos Beltran, Mets quality-control coach Luis Rojas, ESPN analyst Eduardo Perez, Diamondbacks vice president of player...

    Managing Carousel 2019

No, Beltran is the one who turned down other interviews and wants to stay in NY. Girardi just wants to manage again.

ALCS Game 4: Postponed Until Thursday

He actually hit a lot better against lefties this year, SSS but 1.389 OPS against LHP, just .766 against RHP. He had 7 HRs in 33 ABs against lefties, that is insane!!!!

ALCS Game 4: Postponed Until Thursday

I wonder if they would drop Stanton in favor of yet another pitcher, but not so sure who that would be. Ideally it would be a righty who could give length in an emergency, Michael King would be interesting since no one has seen much of him.

No, I get it, but you could say that about the other candidates too, I'm sure. It's an anachronistic award, they probably should stop giving it out.

ALCS Game 4: Postponed Until Thursday

No, Verlander is moving up to game 5 for the same reason as Paxton, if your guys are on full rest, use them. Game 6 will be a bullpen game both ways if it happens (based around Happ/Urquidy), game 7 would be Cole/Severino both on full rest.
