Counter to that is what you can actually get for those firsts when non-All-Stars like Anunoby fetch four?

    NBA Trade Deadline Thread

Fan expectations aren’t necessarily low, but they have no faith in ownership, so it’s not really not that they want to be mediocre, but that they’d rather be mediocre with Dame than without him. Dumping him with no clear path forward would absolutely alienate the local fan base.

    NBA Trade Deadline Thread

I think it was a quiet admission that this years team is going nowhere, but they aren’t ready to blow it up. This summer they probably look for a big piece, and if it doesn’t shake loose, finally trade Dame.

    2022-23 NBA Game Thread

I’m in my 40s and for most of my life Kareem has been talked about as top 3 all-time, at worst, with many claiming he was the best. Not top 10? That’s an asinine assertion.

Steve Nash fired, Jacque Vaughn to Brooklyn

No way the Celtics ask for compensation. It’s a gift that the Nets are relieving them of this headache.

    2022-23 NBA Game Thread

I just flat out cannot figure out why either side did this extension. It made no sense to lock themselves into this relationship given how bad the team is.

    The LA Teams 2022-2023

It still boggles the mind that the Lakers traded KCP, Kuzma, Harrell and a first round pick, and let Caruso walk because of the additional salary just to get Russ. That’s essentially five potential rotation pieces out the door, with no picks or cap space to replace them, for a guy that was a...

    Offseason Rumors/News

Contracts in the NBA are crazy. At the deadline there were multiple talking heads that reported the Blazers couldn’t get value for CJ because of his contract, and now his new team extended him for more money.

    Offseason Rumors/News

They made not have had “championship equity” but they weren’t mediocre or meh either. This was the first year Dame missed the playoffs, and that was after a bad injury and an all time tank. There was a WCF run and another 54 win season. Maybe they should have done more but Dame’s prime coincided...

    Offseason Rumors/News

Sorry, I had started this post, got distracted by kids and came back to finish later, not seeing your post. Great minds think alike. This discussion is all very interesting, but so much of each poster’s interpret depends on using a very small amount of data points to suggest outcomes that may...

    Offseason Rumors/News

The 2011 Mavs are the classic example of keeping their star and just tweaking the edges over and over until they get the right mix. The 2014 Spurs are another. You could even make the case for this year’s Warriors. Also, context matters. You may win championships by drafting Michael Jordan or...

    Offseason Rumors/News

Of course it’s a PR move. The collapse of the Olshey regime is still fresh, and Jody Allen has done nothing to redeem herself with the local fanbase. Pair that with the strange off-season they had and it was clear that they wanted to show that they were committed to Dame for the rest of his...

    Offseason Rumors/News

Dame Lillard is the most popular person, not athlete, but person in the State of Oregon. He is absolutely adored by the local fan base, and fans would turn on the team fast unless they absolutely threaded the needle on a deal and managed to both find Dame a better situation and get a return that...

They already did it. Opened up MLE and BAE to add Tucker, Melton and House without going over hard cap.

    Offseason Rumors/News

What a ridiculous tweet. He was already guaranteed $47 million this year, so he’d only have to get $17 million next summer to equal the total compensation of the accepted 1+1 deal. He’d have to get injured or completely crater as a player to not get that.

    Offseason Rumors/News

I don’t like any deal that trades away a half decade worth of drafts because the risk is so high, but overall I’m not nearly as down on this deal for the next 2-3 years as most here. Gobert can cover a lot KAT’s defensive deficiencies. The Wolves could very good next year.

    Offseason Rumors/News

This is probably right. Options were probably pick up option and get a two-year extension, or opt out and get a four-year with more guaranteed but less per season.

    Offseason Rumors/News

Even with the bizarreness of free agency I still can’t wrap my head around teams fighting over the right to pay Jalen Brunson $110 million. At the trade deadline this year it seemed crazy that he was turning down a $55 million Mavs extension because he wanted $80 million, and now we’ve blown so...

2022 NBA Draft: The Life of Paolo

It’s a feedback loop. KOC isn’t a great talent evaluator on his own, so his big board looks like what his team sources tell them. Then when those teams take the players they already told him they liked he praises the fit.
