    Diary of a commentator

I seem to see a lot of NHL-sized rinks in the European arenas, is it just my perception?

    Diary of a commentator

Watched some minutes of the Mlada - Frolunda game. Player identification is like the most basic thing in sports commentary, so...On the other hand, who knows how confusing the team gear must have been, European hockey teams tend to cover most of their shirts with various adverts.

    Diary of a commentator

Since this became the unofficial official baseball Olympic thread, two very interesting games this (European) morning and noon, with winners facing each other in the semifinals. I am especially interested in the Israel-Korea rematch, after the thriller in their first meeting. Japan - USA is no...

What a game this was. Watched it all live on Eurosport Player. The cheering from both benches made for a grand soundtrack, besides your commentary.

They have a baserunning camera, they should make its feed available for commentators.

Actually it is the first time I saw it happen in years - you may be proud of it. :)

    Diary of a commentator

Your commentary went on the Romanian version of Eurosport (the actual cable channel) - because obviously there are no Romanian broadcasters able to provide a serviceable commentary on softball. The Italian team is quite good on defense, but they do not seem to have any reasonable power hitter...

Your walkoff call and the Japanese goal in the football match were the highlights of the day for me.

    NEWC - The Semis

Fleury looks pretty spastic out there, like itching to get involved in play. As a neutral, a Montreal - Tampa final series would be fascinating to watch. Styles make fights.

    Diary of a commentator

Thank you for this thread. I have been following it from the beginning, as it is about a career I had fancied myself (got to call some basketball games on local TV here in Romania and got involved in promoting baseball and cricket when they were broadcasted on Eurosport some years ago). I...

    Playoff structure idea

I have been reading some articles asking whether MLB should continue to expand the playoffs based on the 2020 experiment or rather retain the present 5-teams-per-league structure. In my opinion, a 6-team structure in both leagues could be a nice compromise and actually give some meaningful...

    October Game Thread

Even more epic: just before the fateful final pitch, Buck went to the mound and held a rather long huddle conference. Next thing you know, bang: 3-run HR.

An Open Letter to MLB Commissioner Robert Manfred

Impose the DH in both leagues, but make the DH "position" a mandatory 9th spot in the lineup. That would be an interesting twist.

Sea Bass and Syrah - Copa America Chile 2015

I don't really get the invitation thing... what if an invited team wins the tournament? Your Copa America champions... Japan :P   With 10 teams they could do the tournament this way:   2 groups of 5 first in group gets a bye 2nd and 3rd in group play a wild-card round to advance in the semifinal...

Saving Baseball - Considering Dramatic Restructuring of the Game

If this is the outlandish rules suggestions thread, how about this:   Let homeruns count double. (a Grand Slam would be then worth 8 runs).   Encourages swinging for the fences, makes for interesting tactical options late in the game.

An Open Letter to MLB Commissioner Robert Manfred

Scheduling should be easy:   18 games vs. each divisional rival (9 home, 9 away), which means 72 total. 6 games vs. each league rival in other divisions (3 home, 3 away), 60 total. 6 games of interleague vs. each team in the same regional division (3 home, 3 away), 30 total.   Total games: 162...

Any Rule Changes in International Soccer You'd Make?

Soccer should learn a thing or two from rugby union. - Let the referee signal any stoppage of time and stop the clock in the arena, restarting it at another ref signal. When the 45 minutes are up, game over. - Let the referee... refer to a TMO when he is not sure about awarding a PK or a goal...
