Cool. We good. ;) I think a lot of teams hit a cutter there after drawing a double, though. Tough for non-Lebrons to draw the defense and sling a pass to the corner with accuracy and pace.

It’s an off balance leaning pull up in a clogged lane against two defenders with position, with body contact, after being arm checked at the beginning of the drive, that hits back iron. Acting like teams are dying for that shot is sort of a credibility-killer right off the bat, IMHO.

There is no universe in which Tatum gets a “good look” at the basket on example 1, or in which that is a missed “layup.”

Have we not updated those data yet to account for the pitch clock effect?

Sleep patterns are alway fertile ground for performance theory.

Come on. They lost three other games. Winning Game 7 was the furthest thing from a foregone conclusion, and pretending that they automatically win with a healthy Tatum is the sort of silliness that had people talking absolute nonsense before the series started.

Just want to note that I really appreciated this nugget of insight and didn’t mean to diminish it with my joking response. I watch pretty much no sports live anymore, and the only thing I bother to DVR is hockey. So, the added context is helpful.

    Jaylen Brown, Year 7

Seems to have confused the shit out of Brown. :( I’ll say this: he tried his fucking ass off last night. When the rest of the team was settling for bricking threes early instead of working for something better, he was flying driving to the hoop. Couldn’t finish worth a damn when he had a half...

I feel like Smart even realizes this, because his effort in setting screens—especially for the ball handler at the top of the key—is generally to run vaguely in the direction of the guy he’s screening, slowing down to maybe brush him, and then speeding back up away from him.

The summer chopping block: who do you want gone and why?

Both of these things make sense, and I’m certainly less informed than most here on them.

The summer chopping block: who do you want gone and why?

Smart, Grant Williams. I’m agnostic on Mazzulla depending on what else is out there. A fourth head coach in four years seems a mistake, though.

5/29 - The Last Of Us

Smart’s been an asshole about the Udoka situation from the jump. But any time you have a culture guy who thinks he’s a better player than he is blaming two different coaches’ situations for outcomes like these, I think you’ve got to move on.

That’s not what happened. I appreciate the commitment to a bit as much as the next guy, though.

Jesus fucking Christ, dude. Butler’s got twice as many points today. Tatum couldn’t hit a cow in the ass with a shovel. Sucks that he hurt his ankle. What is it that compels grown ass men to these heights of public delusion? There is no universe in which Tatum outplayed Butler today.
