Oh for Christ's Sake.....People complaining about the rights and wrongs of end of season trophies

Put me firmly in the column of participation trophies are one of the few things that are RIGHT about youth sports in America* My first assistant coach for my club team was a young lady who was wrapping up her college degree. Her dad was the head coach for the local USL soccer team and was her...

Steep Couloirs and Flatspin 360s - Skiing and Boarding 22-23

I would also say, as a complete homer, Palisades sucks. Long lines, lame terrain, low elevation, crazy traffic. Have to hike to anything good. You will spend as much time trying to get to the resort as if you drove down to Mammoth. Your other two are pretty legit though :)

Steep Couloirs and Flatspin 360s - Skiing and Boarding 22-23

Love all these updates! So glad everyone is having a great season. Lots of resort skiing lately, some big 30k + days the last 3 trips. Took the kids into the chutes for the first time in their short lives. Only one fall/slide, dad was there to catch and put skies back on. At the bottom, all...

    Soccer Team Tactics Question

We recently got a new Director of Coaching for the club and I posed the same question to her. Some interesting insights: "Bunching" is a huge problem for the US game right now, at least through the collegiate level. Players are not likely to switch the field so everything is mid-touchline...

Steep Couloirs and Flatspin 360s - Skiing and Boarding 22-23

Skinny skis too! (Well, for the age, 95 underfoot, my fattest gear)! I don’t have much help with that cold, but I will say, whatever you do, don’t sweat out. That’s danger will Robinson cold. I struggle mightily at 18-22 degrees. Too cold for a t-shirt too hot for even a capilene long sleeve. I...

Steep Couloirs and Flatspin 360s - Skiing and Boarding 22-23

This makes me so happy. We have a 4-5 bears that live in the hood; sometimes with cubs, and I get to see them a few times every summer. Especially when the apples are ripe and they post up gorging or when they try and raid my chicken coop… never fails to just inspire awe at their size, power...

Steep Couloirs and Flatspin 360s - Skiing and Boarding 22-23

Suns out, Guns out? At least the snow will be nice and dry? I don't see any wind there so that's pretty awesome! Saturday was almost as amazing as Friday from a skiing perspective. Snow was chalk, sun was shining, no wind. Almost no crowds. (Like, people, end of storm cycle, warm, where are...

Steep Couloirs and Flatspin 360s - Skiing and Boarding 22-23

Absolute epic day. Storms finally stopped blowing Wednesday Night/Thursday morning. 24" or so of fresh, cold snow. Winds were hellacious during the storms with gusts over 100mph on the ridges so there was a lot of movement of snow. Winds out of the north east, typically out of the sw for this...

    Soccer Team Tactics Question

So slight bump! Just got back from ODP in Arizona. I was not coaching, just a turd parent. Was super fun/educational to just watch and absorb the game w/out having to manage it. That said, question on 3-2-3 formation. Lots of shifting to ball side, sliding outside backs all the way to the...

Steep Couloirs and Flatspin 360s - Skiing and Boarding 22-23

I don't have the time to do a recap justice but.... I have shoveled/plowed over 9' of snow out of my driveway this year. I am at 5500' elevation. Absolutely monster winter so far for the Sierras. Toured last week, 2k vert. feet. What would normally take 1.5 hours to hike took over 3. Breaking...

    Soccer Team Tactics Question

It's so key. It's driving her crazy, but I have forbidden picking up the ball in practice/games for the winter season (unless it's caught in the air). I'm also having her play deep into the field. Sure, we have been burned a couple times, but like mentioned, I'm really trying to get her...

    The Judgment-Free Soccer Questions Thread

I realize I mis-read @InstaFace above post about subbing BEFORE PKs. I.e. yes, during ET, but not at the end of ET but BEFORE PKs.

    The Judgment-Free Soccer Questions Thread

Doesn't the field "lock" at the end of ET? Like, once PKs are needed it's too late to sub? At the youth level that's the rule... Also, Keeper can shoot right? They can be part of your top 5, it's just not usual to go there? Once you go through the five, does it just go 1 by 1? I.e. you don't...

How do yellow's work at this stage? if you get a yellow this game, and then another yellow, do you sit the following game? Or is it an automatic soft red for yellow in the second game? Sorry if that isn't clear.

How do subs work in extra time? Do you get another set of 5? Can you bring players in that were subbed out at half?
