The Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones Thread

He has not drafted well nor has he done well in FA/trades on offense for years now. Hunter Henry has been his best acquisition in that regards since 2019. The amount of misses on that side of the ball is staggering. He'll sign Davon Godcheaux to a $10 million AAV contract but skimp on WR and...

The Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones Thread

Agreed. The whole benching him thing is ridiculous when you see he was out there for punt returns. As you say, Douglas' skill set is unique to him on this team and he needs to be out there.

The Red Sox have fired Chaim Bloom

Carrabis is not a mouthpiece for the Red Sox. If you listen to the podcasts, you'd see that he criticizes them as much as he praises the team. On Bloom, what he is good at is being calculated, careful, and risk-averse. Those are great traits to have when having the long-term view of...

    Week 3--Pats @ Jets

Looking like a tropical system will be going over the NY area on game day which should make for some terrible weather conditions.

So....who is the new GM/head of baseball ops?

Ok so cross Preller off the list after reading this article. Great evaluator, terrible at everything else. https://theathletic.com/4874799/2023/09/19/san-diego-padres-disaster-season-preller/

So....who is the new GM/head of baseball ops?

Not sure what there is to be confused about. Preller would make deals to get impact players to Boston while Bloom would not pull the trigger to do so. All I'm saying is don't trade the whole farm in the process. Identify which ones to keep and which ones are most valuable in a trade.

CFB 2023 Week 3: Is Syracuse Back?!?

I'd say UGA has righted the ship.

CFB 2023 Week 3: Is Syracuse Back?!?

FSU-BC is a battle of who can suck less. What an extremely sloppy game

The Red Sox have fired Chaim Bloom

At the least, they should've gotten under the luxury tax last deadline.

The Red Sox have fired Chaim Bloom

I would trade Duran this offseason. I believe that he's in a similar position that Dalbec was at the end of '21 in terms of their value. Is Duran's level of play sustainable long-term? I would bank on the fact that it isn't and try to move him. Rafaela should be the CF of the future and...

The Red Sox have fired Chaim Bloom

Except it jives with the inaction at the deadline this year with possible trades of Verdugo and Paxton.

The Red Sox have fired Chaim Bloom

The leak didn't come from the Sox side. It actually came from the Rangers side.

The Red Sox have fired Chaim Bloom

The trade offer was made while Sale was on the IL after falling off his bike IIRC. The Rangers were that desperate for pitching that they wanted to take an injured(at that time oft-injured) guy with a ton of money left and pay the whole freight. From the owner's perspective, it would have...

The Red Sox have fired Chaim Bloom

They could, yes. But, they need ace level pitching and that would take premium prospects and I don't want to all of a sudden dealing off Mayer and Anthony types. They've got the money to go out and spend. This is supposedly why they went under the luxury tax this year is to go back over it...

The Red Sox have fired Chaim Bloom

As much as you think it's pessimistic if they do go out and get, say, Yamamoto and Snell, the timeline isn't 3 years. Defense and starting pitching are their two biggest issues to address. If you're telling me that you put this year's starting lineup out there and we have a top 3 of Snell...

The Red Sox have fired Chaim Bloom

Another point in this firing is this. After seeing the track record of ownership firing somebody every 4-5 years, how is that going to affect the candidate pool? Is an established baseball executive going to want to come here knowing he may get fired in that amount of time? Does that limit...

The Red Sox have fired Chaim Bloom

Agreed on all points here. He was mostly good at finding diamonds in the rough. Quick examples are Wacha, Schrieber, Whitlock, Bernadino, and if you want to throw in Pivetta I'll grant you him too. The catching tandem of Wong/McGuire is another example. They could possibly have something in...

The Red Sox have fired Chaim Bloom

Another part of the Carrabis podcast touched on just how far the organization fell behind in the player development process in the years before Bloom took over. Bloom is credited with hiring a bunch of people that helped elevate that side. The Sox used to be one of the most forward thinking...
