What does Red Sox starting pitching look like in 2024?

If they can't get Yamamoto (which I haven't ruled out, but is a total crapshoot at this point) then I'd be fine with Imanaga and another SP via trade as long as we're taking about someone on the Gilbert/Burnes/Cease tier. As I've said, I think the effort to add to the quantity of arms is based...

What does Red Sox starting pitching look like in 2024?

WRT Yamamoto, it seems that we really just don't know what preferences or bias he may have toward one city (or team) or another. So if there are six teams in the final round of negotiations, I think are chances seem to be 1 in 6 - no real reason to think they are any better or worse than anyone...

What does Red Sox starting pitching look like in 2024?

I agree that there was room for improvement in the bullpen. But not all of these guys are going to fit on the roster (25 or 40) - it's a numbers game, and somebody's (or some bodies) gonna get moved to make room for some better starting pitching.

Justin Slaten acquired from Mets (minor+ move)

As I just posted in the SP thread, I think these moves are a prelude to a trade, moving some of these assets to land a big fish.

What does Red Sox starting pitching look like in 2024?

With all these moves to build up the pitching depth, I expect to see some of that depth moved in a trade for a SP (Burnes. Gilbert, Cease, Keller, etc.) and/or a bat for 2B or OF. Not guaranteeing that this will happen, but the timing of these moves suggest to me they are acquiring assets so...

What does Red Sox relief pitching look like in 2024?

You'd have to think that some of our current pitchers (esp. Houck, but maybe Whitlock or Crawford) could be headed out in trades, especially for a controllable SP or 2B, so that could open a slot in the BP for Hicks.

Free Agent Pitching. Who Do The Sox Get?

No, not at the same price, but at expected prices. Just an indication of how much I don't want Stroman, that I'd rather take a flier on Giolito. I'd also prefer Paxton or other guys with question marks over Stroman.

Free Agent Pitching. Who Do The Sox Get?

I still think Yamamoto is their #1 target, but even if they're willing to back up the Brinks truck there's no guarantee they get him. I think Montgomery is their second choice - not impossible for them to end up with both, but unlikely. Hopefully they end up with one them. If they get one, I...

What does Red Sox starting pitching look like in 2024?

I suspect their top two choices are Yamamoto and Montgomery. If they could get both of them, they probably would, and that would be great. But even one of them would be good, but they'd still need another, which might be through a trade (Burnes, Gilbert, Bieber, etc.) if they can find a match...

What does Red Sox starting pitching look like in 2024?

Snell to Seattle only seems to make sense if they are going to trade another one of their starting pitchers, so I don't think it reduces the pool of pitchers available. And yeah, it's a trade-off, so to speak. The downside is that you have to give up talent to make a trade, but the upside is...

Luis Urías to the Mariners for RHP Isaiah Campbell

Maybe they're planning to use it towards Snell. And then trading one of their other SPs for another bat.

What does Red Sox starting pitching look like in 2024?

I'm ok with Snell going to Seattle. He's a bit of a risk and requires giving up a draft pick. And it likely frees up a SP from them in a trade, which I assume would probably be part of the Mariners' strategy in signing Snell - to then trade one of their other SPs for a bat or two (which they may...

Poll: Rate Your Faith in the Red Sox Front Office

I also voted 20% for generally the same reasons. Until a few days ago, I was "ok" with the direction. What changed my mind? It wasn't the fact that the didn't bring Bogey back - the SD offer was not one they should have matched. But it was how it happened - the blatant misreading of the market...

Poll: Who Will Play the Most Games at Shortstop for the '23 Red Sox?

Glad to see that I wasn't the only one who voted for Elvis Costello. He is a fan favorite, after all. It's important to keep a sense of humor in times like these. And there wan't a choice for "who f'ing cares?" At this point, I have no confidence that the team won't suck. I hope they prove...

How interested are you in the Red Sox at this point?

I voted "not sure why I'm here." But it's mostly to see how many others share my feelings. I've been a die-hard fan since '67. Lots of hard times, and lots of FO screw-ups (nothing will top the Lynn/Fisk debacle) but I hung with them, and after much heartbreak my loyalty was ultimately rewarded...

Red Sox Rumors - Just Kidding

I think Pete Abe is trying to be the successor to CHB. I'm finding his negativism tiring. I understand (and agree) that the media should not be a bunch of fanboys (or fangirls) but they should really try to be evenhanded in covering the pros and cons or half-empty/half-full. And negativity from...

Red Sox Rumors - Just Kidding

It's frustrating when no one will take your money. All dressed up with no place to go. But I do like Justin Turner as a RH bat for DH and maybe some ABs at 1B (giving Cases some days off against tough lefties). Haniger was a better fit because he could play OF (maybe Turner could play some LF?).

Red Sox Rumors - Just Kidding

At this point, we don't know whether Haniger chose SF because they made a better offer, or because he preferred them for other reasons (maybe he wanted to stay on the west coast), Folks sometime forget that players get to choose where they sign, and when the offers are close they may not always...

Red Sox Rumors - Just Kidding

Yeah, I edited and corrected my original post - didn't have my glasses on when I first read it. My bad. Although on twitter, someone did note that B-R lists "Arson Judge" as one of his nicknames. Probably a joke, but got picked up by Bleacher Report.

Red Sox Rumors - Just Kidding

Scrolling through Bleacher Report app on my phone and saw the following posted - a tweet from "ITM Podcast" "Source: Aaron Judge now considering 12-year deal with Red Sox. More details to come." Don't know about the veracity of this source, but it's a rumor. Correction: tweet says "Arson...
