Sons of Rube Goldberg: MLS 2024-25 Offseason Thread

Some early moves of note: 1. FC Cincinnati have struggled to replace Brandon Vazquez's production at center forward ever since he was sold to Monterrey, so they've already gone out and spent $16.2m on Togolese international Kevin Denkey from Cercle Brugge. This is the MLS record transfer fee...

Curb Your Enthusiasm: US Youth National Teams, Prospect Hype, and Youth Development Thread [The DA is DEAD updates]

I agree, we want our top players in the top leagues. The Netherlands/Belgium style stepping stone league is good in theory, but it often doesn't work out because most clubs in the Eredivisie and the Jupiler League are financial midgets compared to every single MLS club. So if something works...

Curb Your Enthusiasm: US Youth National Teams, Prospect Hype, and Youth Development Thread [The DA is DEAD updates]

We seem to be in good shape. Albert ('09) has been playing up with the U17 national team (mostly '08s) in the last couple of camps. This team will be playing in CONCACAF qualifiers in February; if he plays with them, he'll be provisionally cap-tied to the US and the chances that he suits up...

Curb Your Enthusiasm: US Youth National Teams, Prospect Hype, and Youth Development Thread [The DA is DEAD updates]

I dislike this move. Akinmboni has a lot of physical gifts and a high upside, but he's raw. He's not yet good enough to hold his own as a starter in MLS, and I hate seeing guys like this make the immediate jump to an EPL club, where it's so easy to get lost in the mix. I hope for the best...

Sons of Rube Goldberg: MLS 2024-25 Offseason Thread

MLS Cup 2024 is done and dusted and the LA Galaxy have won their sixth title. Now it's time for what will be a very busy offseason. There are no major changes to the overall roster spending from 2024 to 2025, but with the 30th team joining the league (San Diego FC, another boring Europhile...

    GW 15 (12/7 - 12/9) - ***** EVE-LIV PPD, go back to bed

It’s crazy. There are only 12 players who have ever played 400+ regular season games in MLS and he could join that club in his age 31 season.

    GW 15 (12/7 - 12/9) - ***** EVE-LIV PPD, go back to bed

The Galaxy hold on to win another one. They've been so bad for so long now that my reflexive dislike of them has faded a bit. They are a fun team that perhaps got a bit lucky that the heavyweights in the East all shat the bed in the playoffs. Finally making the obvious decision to jettison...

    GW 15 (12/7 - 12/9) - ***** EVE-LIV PPD, go back to bed

This game is getting a "playoff hockey" type of vibe.

Wow. Good chance for Pec is saved, and then Forsberg misses an opportunity on the other end. Marco Reus (who, naturally, is banged up) is coming in soon.

Already more goals and offense than expected for a Red Bull team that has more grit than talent and a Puig-less Galaxy midfield.

RB had a nice storybook underdog run through the playoffs, but it feels like reality is catching up to them here.

    GW 15 (12/7 - 12/9) - ***** EVE-LIV PPD, go back to bed

MLS Cup lineups are out. A lot rests on Gabriel Pec's shoulders as a result of Riqui Puig's ACL tear last week.

Curb Your Enthusiasm: US Youth National Teams, Prospect Hype, and Youth Development Thread [The DA is DEAD updates]

Mathis Albert, a 15 year old winger, is starting to get some hype over in Germany. He's putting up big numbers in Dortmund's academy since joining their U17 team from LA Galaxy this past summer and he's probably a higher tier prospect than Cole Campbell, who is older and now on the fringes of...

MLS 2024: It’s Leo’s league, we’re all just playing in it

It is extremely bizarre that this Red Bulls team got through to MLS Cup. I wonder what the betting odds were on this outcome at the beginning of the playoffs. So much for the Miami vs. Columbus glamor matchup in the East final. From a neutral's perspective, the Galaxy are a fun team and...

MLS 2024: It’s Leo’s league, we’re all just playing in it

The conference finals are tonight, Orlando vs. RBNY at 7:30 and LA Galaxy vs. Seattle at 10. I'm anticipating the Western conference final more eagerly, but I'll be tuning into both.

NYCFC fired Nick Cushing, which honestly feels a bit overdue. Inter Miami announced the hire of Javier Mascherano to replace Tata. Big name, not necessarily a big track record — he managed to not qualify for the U20 WC with Argentina U20. But he's a Messi Guy. We'll see how it goes. St...

MLS 2024: It’s Leo’s league, we’re all just playing in it

Well, RBNY pulled out a 2-0 win on the “road” at Citi Field in a game in which they decidedly lost the xG battle. Given that all the good teams in the East are out already, it’s just one more achievable win to get to MLS Cup for them…

    USMNT: Don’t Screw the Poch

That's an extremely conservative lineup, with only two real attackers on the field. I guess with Reyna injured, Weah suspended, and Aaronson ill, the number of attacking midfielders of any type is small. Still, it shows that Tillman has work to do to get into the circle of trust.
