    Max Fried signs with MFY

Except that this is a fantasy league that lets you pocket whatever portion of that $50 you end up not spending, and FSG seems fine with doing just that.

    Max Fried signs with MFY

So what's that? Three years, $45 million? Maybe he's friends with somebody on the team, or was a big fan of Curt Schilling growing up, or likes the Celtics, or...

Not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

Until somebody crashes into him breaking up a double play. There's a reason there aren't many second basemen who are 35+.

Boston’s taxing pursuit of Juan Soto is over. (Mets)

This is where I'm at. I wanted Soto but never thought we'd get him and at this price, that might be for the best. But if we end up with a bunch of short-term contracts for, just to say some names (no idea how likely any of these are), Michael Taylor, Alex Cobb and, apparently available because...

Boston’s taxing pursuit of Juan Soto is over. (Mets)

On WFAN earlier this week, Tiki Barber, who presumably had an agent back kn the day, said it is typically 5-10%.

Do you think the Red Sox interest in Juan Soto is genuine?

If I recall how it played out correctly, the interest wasn't reciprocated has soon as it became apparent that the Sox were offering a fraction of the years and money that other teams were.

Do you think the Red Sox interest in Juan Soto is genuine?

Like others, I think the Sox are willing to put in the effort to see if they can get him on their turns and, appreciating that he is a unique talent, they're willing to offer more to him than they have to others in the past. That said, they're not going to be willing to go mano-a-mano with the...

Not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

Totally agree on this. Duct tape rotations put too much stress on the bullpen and result in too many starts by spare parts and openers (which causes more bullpen stress).

Boston’s taxing pursuit of Juan Soto is over. (Mets)

Headed to Toronto this evening. I will see a friend who is a huge Blue Jays fan who was briefly ecstatic this time last year that Toronto was going to sign Ohtani. It's a timely reminder for me to basically not pay much attention to this thread.

MLB (Manfred) pondering the idea of a Golden At-Bat

Maybe they should just replace baseball with Home Rin Derby.

MLB (Manfred) pondering the idea of a Golden At-Bat

Wow, this exciting idea will gets the kids back into baseball! And do nothing to turn off older fans who value the game's traditions!

    Week 13 NFL Game Thread

Yeah, the rush creates pressure on Mahomes so that he's not able to throw the ball with enough umph on it, and the Chiefs benefit from it. Its so stupid.

Not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

Yeah, I'm just talking about post-contract extension Chris Sale since that seems to be one of the cautionary tales that has many saying signing someone like Fried or Burnes to a long-term contract is too risky.

You mean the David Price who gave us almost 600 innings of 118 ERA+ pitching over four seasons, with WARs of 2.9, 1.6, 3.7 and 1.6? Who had an excellent post-season in 2018? I know we paid him a ton of money, that he never won Cy Young Awards, that he had injury issues, that he was kind of a...

    Milton DFAs The Trop

Does a move by the Rays have some negative connotation for the next giant pile of money the MLB owners will receive for an expansion franchise? I recall talk that the NFL wanted to keep LA teamless for that reason, although obviously that didn't ultimately stop the Rams and Chargers going...

Cy Young winner Chris Sale thread

His HOF chances are going to depend almost entirely on whether and how quickly the voters move away from the historical norms for what has gotten starters into Cooperstown.

Changes coming to MLB television packages, revenue sharing. Ending blackouts in 2028?

I happened to meet a guy who used to be a front office exec at a mid tier team the night before last and he thought this rejiggering of broadcasting rights would create the next step function change in the value of teams, at least the mid tier teams he worked with. Unfortunately, I didn't get...
