Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

The data suggests that overall fandom and viewing of the NBA is national in scope. That stands to reason, the NBA has marketed stars over teams for decades. Baseball is the opposite. It has highly localized fandom and viewing. So even when the TV ratings look similar, the composition of...

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

ESPN is desperately trying to find early season matchups that will deliver strong MLB ratings to capitalize on the momentum the Dodgers-Yankees World Series created. MLB has been slowly disappearing from the national sports scene for years. The Red Sox and Cardinals are 2 of the 5 most popular...

    Bob Uecker dead at 90

I’m watching Major League in Uek’s honor. My God, the first scene he’s in, calling opening day, is still freakin hysterical.

    Robyn Glaser out?

I feel bad for her. It strikes me that she was a strong, long time employee who was asked to step in and help while the org was in the midst of unrelenting dysfunction. And her reward was to be let go.

Alpha Wolf: Eliot Wolf named de facto GM

The one aspect of Kraft being cheap that I buy is his lack of attention to the physical infrastructure that helps players. While he was pouring money into Patriot Place, and renovating revenue-generating parts of Gillette, he let the weight room and various other player-centric facilities...

    Robyn Glaser out?

Apparently she had some presence on the football side of things last offseason. And BB made some negative comments about her recently (I didn't hear them). So that's why its newsworthy. She became a bit player in the ongoing saga.

    Bob Uecker dead at 90

    1964 in Missouri?! That's amazing.

    Bob Uecker dead at 90

90 is a ripe old age and Uecker certainly had a life well lived. But it's still very sad to know he's passed. What a tremendous ambassador for the game. As a kid who followed baseball religiously in the 80s, Uecker was as big of a part of that era as anyone. The announcing, the Miller Lite...

    Robyn Glaser out?

The description of her role very much reminds me of someone I worked with at ESPN who was essentially the EVP of all things operations. Basically, someone who had been around a long time and knew how to get shit done across a wide variety of endeavors. Maybe she was Jonathan's mole or...

    2025 Patriots RB Discussion

Yeah that’s fair. If we literally address all of our other needs in free agency then I guess a second round RB is OK. Aside from that happening, I’ll be pissed. Very pissed. I just philosophically don’t think a team needs to take a RB before round 3.

    2025 Patriots RB Discussion

In all honesty, I'd lose my shit if this team takes a RB in the 2nd round. Like full blown fit.

    2025 Patriots RB Discussion

This is where I'm at. It's just not critical to have an "elite" RB and a team should never go chasing one in the 1st or 2nd round. I'm not even sure about the 3rd round, honestly.

Red Sox Acquire C Blake Sabol from SFG for IFA $$ (Chase Shugart DFA'd)

Thanks for writing was I was thinking. If folks here like the move than I'm down with that assessment. Just struck me as odd to read that he's a bad defensive catcher when I've also been reading all offseason about the scourge that is Conor Wong.

Running on fumes: discussions of WEEI

I remember discovering Fitzy YEARS ago on YouTube. He was pretty funny in short burst, 5 minute videos where he did the exaggerated accent schtick, swore a lot, and burped. But then that got stale. I can't believe he's doing radio still.

Vrabel named HC of the NEP

No, it's not "BB all over again". But it is about having leadership, which was abundantly clear that this franchise lacked for the past 12 months. *EDIT* If you disagree with the Vrabel/Wolf structure just say it and cite why. My God, the fucking constant snark around here.

Vrabel named HC of the NEP

Great news. Like I was saying before his hiring, having Vrabel be THE dominant voice in the organization is critical.

Vrabel named HC of the NEP

There's a huuuuuuuuuuge difference between being a CEO-type head coach in college vs. the NFL. Think Steve Spurrier, noted college CEO and culture guy, who was a flaming wreck of an NFL coach. I don't see anything in Deion that suggests he'd be a successful NFL HC. He's right where he...

Alpha Wolf: Eliot Wolf named de facto GM

I've been as down on Wolf as anyone over the past couple months. But if Vrabel genuinely wants him to stick around then I'm certainly on board with that. There won't be a Power Struggle (tm). We'll know a year from now how it pans out. And if we have another poor draft or a mediocre FA...

    Hypothetical: Tomlin vs. Vrabel

Yeah, I get it. Playoff success is weird though. And no one knows that better than Pats fans. If Adam Viniatieri didn't have balls of steel (and a leg made of the richest mahogany) we lose a couple of those early BB era playoff games and the narrative looks a lot different.

    Hypothetical: Tomlin vs. Vrabel

I did. I think Tomlin is an excellent, highly proven head coach. The Steelers are always good-ish, and frequently very good. I think they've struggled with navigating the end of Big Ben's career and finding his replacement. He got 10 wins and a playoff appearance from a pretty gnarly bunch...
