    How to Fix Baseball

In 2025, you're not going to get thousands of people showing up to anything on the day of an event without already having purchased their tickets. I'm not going to take a trip into Boston hoping that the same-day tickets aren't sold out by the time I get there. Unless I know from history that...

    How to Fix Baseball

Only if this goes along with 1-16 playoff seeding*. Right now the #10 seed in the East is 19-25 Chicago. The #10 in the West is 21-21 Phoenix. Teams in the West are going to be eliminated from the playoffs earlier than teams in the East with the same record. That gives West teams a better chance...

    How to Fix Baseball

That takes away almost all of the incentive for a team to develop players in their farm system. Would be very bad for the game in the long run. What I'd like to see is the free agency clock be by age, not service time. Teams would call up their exciting young players sooner because it won't...

Rival NBA League advised by Maverick Carter seeks $5bn

Their idea is to have six men's and six women's teams, and they'll just go from place to place and play each other when they get there? Each team won't have a defined geographic home? So the Harlem Globetrotters without any of the fun? I think there might be a chance to develop a Eurasian Super...

    Is this a playoff team?

It's crazy to me that people are weighing the last five years more heavily than the twenty years that came before them. This ownership group has proven they will spend money on a team that deserves it. The past five years, the team hasn't deserved it. They had very little cost-controlled home...

    Is this a playoff team?

I can't think of six AL teams that I feel confident saying will be better than the Red Sox. So, sure, the playoffs are a strong possibility.

    ESPN Is Pathetic

According to ESPN, the biggest MLB mistake since 2020 was the Angels not trading away Ohtani and letting him walk away and getting nothing back but a draft pick. At the same time, the Red Sox trading away Mookie and getting something in return better than a draft pick, is the fourth biggest...

How do you feel about the Pats today?

Is that you, Felger? With the exception of the most obvious picks in the world, like taking Peyton Manning at #1, I absolutely give someone credit for taking a consensus pick but it being right. It's not always. Danny Ainge will forever be remembered as a genius for not taking the consensus #1...

How do you feel about the Pats today?

No one knew at the time that BB would become the GOAT coach. They were also incredibly lucky that Tom Brady turned into the GOAT QB. Sure, they made the decision to draft him, but if they had any idea how good he would be, they wouldn't have waited until the 6th round to take him. They and...

How do you feel about the Pats today?

The Patriots were one of the worst run franchises in NFL history. Bill Parcells made them respectable, then they lucked into Belichik and Brady which led to the greatest dynasty in NFL history. But they're all gone now, and unless they somehow luck into the next GOAT coach and QB, I expect them...

Game Goat thread: Week 18 vs BUF (23-16 win)

Here's my lottery method: The non-playoff team with the fewest losses gets 1 ping pong ball. For every loss more than that, every other team gets one additional ping pong ball. Draw for picks 1-3. For example, this year, Seattle has 7 losses. They get 1 ping pong ball. The Patriots with 13...

The Center Cannot Hold: Replacement ideas for Horford and Porzingis

I think the big question Brad needs to answer is how much of our future he wants too trade away to keep this window open. The Celtics currently have only traded away one future first and a pick swap. So they could include 2 or 3 future firsts and more pick swaps to bring back a better player...

    Draft Pick Watch

I don't know if this question belongs here or is worthy of its own thread, but why is the NFL the only major US sport without a draft lottery? It's been said in the past that it's not necessary since tanking doesn't really happen in the NFL, as evidenced by the Giants and Raiders winning this...

Red Sox hook Crochet for Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez

There's a much, much better chance that Crochet wins a Cy Young as a Red Sox than that Teel wins an MVP as a White Sox. Like, orders of magnitude more likely. This trade is a huge win.

Boston’s taxing pursuit of Juan Soto is over. (Mets)

I think if something like that were to happen, about 26 or 27 owners would start fighting very hard for a salary cap, and if they had to sacrifice another season of baseball to get it, they just might.

Do you think the Red Sox interest in Juan Soto is genuine?

You think a single person is going to buy a Red Sox ticket because they tried to get Soto, but didn't? I don't think so.

I like the idea in theory, but some teams could end up playing 84 regular season games. Hard pass. All the group play games have to be part of the regular season. So why can't the tiebreaker be as simple as: 1. Head to Head. 2. Regular Season Winning Percentage as of the end of group play.
