2025 MLB Regular Season General Thread

Alex Bregman to Red Sox: 3 years, $120 million(opt outs after each season)

Off to a great start so far. How happy do you think Bregman already is to get to play 80 to 90 games this year at Fenway?

    Ugly Devers Stat

Could have easily had a 2 HR game, plus a nice heads-up play going from 2nd to 3rd early in the game on a bobbled ball in CF when the score was still tight. Any frustration about being moved to DH clearly seems to have dissipated.

    Wrexham? I hardly know him.

Yeah, have to think that Ryan & Rob are going to have to bring in some investor partners with deeper pockets or a stint in the Championship could be a short one.

Red Sox sign Garrett Crochet to a 6 year/$170 million extension

Hopefully it does begin to reduce the stigma of Red Sox catchers going to the White Sox, though.

Kristian Campbell signs an eight-year contract extension (2025-2032), with club options for 2033 and 2034 ( $60M guaranteed)

Very surprised and happy with this deal and happy for Kristian and his family. I don’t see anything morally wrong with the Red Sox organization being able to convince a young player to sign a team-friendly deal - our society has become so focused on chasing every last dollar that we too often...

    Giolito

Should we be looking at Giolito as a lottery ticket at this point? Sure would be nice to hit the '#3 starter' jackpot but I'm not counting on it.

    Marchand Traded to Florida

Hate, hate, hate this deal. I'd probably feel a little different if it was to a team with no real history with the B's and for a better return, but sending Marchand to the Panthers is like trading Papi to the MFY's, Bird to the Lakers or TB12 to the Colts. You just don't do it. Just a giant...

    Spring Training Updates

This. It was incredibly frustrating to see how many people on this board were willing to give up on Mayer and toss him into any number of proposed deals. If he had been sent to Chicago instead of Teel, I would have been pissed.

Dan Shaughnessy: Taking a dump in your mouth one column at a time

2004 derailed Shank's gravy train - he released four editions of his book starting in 1990, the last coming just two months before Millar & company downed their shots and gave the Bambino a big middle finger. I'm sure the 5th edition was sitting on Dan's word processor with a juicy new chapter...

    Triston

Doubtful - if they are moving Devers off 3B to improve the defense, how does sticking him at 1B fit into that equation? He's headed to DH, there's no need to overthink this.

Bregman and the Sox (New?) Team Building Philosophy

It's hard to point to this as an overarching philosophy when the the team just offered a seven-year deal to 31-year-old Max Fried and tried to sign Juan Soto to a deal that would have kept him a Red Sock until age 41.

Alex Bregman to Red Sox: 3 years, $120 million(opt outs after each season)

Love the deal, love that they are playing in the Dodgers deferred compensation sandbox and using creativity to get a deal of this magnitude done, and especially love that it is the Cubs and not the Red Sox who are the subject of the after-the-fact stories about how they were too cheap to get a...

It is TIME! 2025 NFL Coaching Carousel

Firing the GM after doing a bunch of HC interviews ... seems like a competent and well-run organization.

It is TIME! 2025 NFL Coaching Carousel

I'll be surprised if Mayo is still coaching five years from now. I think he eventually ends up back in the business world with a media side gig.

Vrabel named HC of the NEP

Not sure if this says more about the Red Sox or the Patriots.

It is TIME! 2025 NFL Coaching Carousel

Agreed - Allen is the kind of experienced coordinator that Mayo so desperately needed this season.

Ready, willing and Vrabel: a Mike (linebacker) thread

It's become accepted wisdom among Vrabel's detractors that he shot his way out of Tennessee and is hard to work with, but that Titans organization is increasingly looking like a dumpster fire with a meddlesome owner at the helm.

    The HC Search

The lack of head coaching experience doesn't scare me about Ben Johnson - what concerns me are the reports that he is something of a quiet introvert, which doesn't seem like a great fit on a team that is struggling for an identity and a new culture in the post-Belichick era. Feels like they...
