Why is Kristian Campbell ready now?

Very excited for him! Lots of high praise that they're calling him up.

Red Sox hook Crochet for Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez

Yup. Also, even if his hitting doesn't decline too much, he's likely going to be a permanent DH sooner or later, as his defense is limited. Don't get me wrong, I would have still been ecstatic if we signed him, but the reality is that any deal that pays a player into their mid-30's will probably...

Are you happy with the Bregman deal?

As long as we don't do something like trade Casas because we added Bregman, I love it. I think he's gonna have a really good year, wouldn't even surprise me if he ends up being our best overall hitter. Though, with those opt-outs he may not stay a while.

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

The thing I don't like is we'll probably eat most of Arenado's salary to avoid sending a decent prospect. But then, since we'll have to trade Yoshida if we acquire Arenado, that means we'll probably eat salary in that deal too. So when I think of us getting Arenado, I'm thinking of the Yoshida...

Roki Sasaki to be posted this winter

Apparently the finalists are Dodgers, Padres, and... Jays? Interesting. Did we ever even meet with him? I don't recall reading anywhere that Boston met with him in person, feels like he never had interest in us at all.

    Is this a playoff team?

Its tough to say because of the nature of our changes and our competitors' changes. For example, NYY lost Soto, which is huge, but they got Fried, who should make up some of the wins (7.9 v. 3.5). Still a loss of -4.4 wins. Baltimore is the obvious loser of the offseason, having lost Corbin...

    Santander??

He's just a bad fit in general. He doesn't play defense well and will further impact the team's flexibility (i.e. Devers needs to eventually move to 1B or DH). If we are going for right-handed power, it should ideally be an infielder that can play 3B and/or at least rotate between 3B, 1B, and...

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

Yeah, insane. Wasn't he injured for part of the season? Even if he we assume he'll be solid next season, which I don't doubt, how can he be 56 spots ahead of Duran, who was excellent overall?

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

Cubs traded for Kyle Tucker, guess that puts that idea to bed. I take this to mean the Astros are at least doing a partial rebuild, so any merit to trying to nab Framber Valdez if its not for a king's ransom?

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

The Bogaerts contract is all kinds of bad. Keep in mind that we'll also need to pay probably around $150M-$200M to extend Cease after next season, so Cease suddenly becomes a $400M pitcher.

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

I was reading that we're in touch with Seattle about their pitching. One thing I fear happening is trading Casas+ for pitching, and then signing Bregman. If it is a deal centered around Abreu, I might bite depending on what else is included. But even then, I feel good about the rotation. If...

Red Sox hook Crochet for Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez

Teel was a name I was interested in because of his position, its just hard to find a good catcher. Still, you just never know with prospects. Good trade overall.

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

I wonder why the Padres would trade Cease? They have him for next season and they need to be in GFIN mode. They have Machado, Tatis Jr., and Bogaerts commanding heavy salaries - gotta go all in.

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

If I'm trading for Tucker, I'm also making sure he'll sign an extension. Its been a while since we had such a great farm system, and I wouldn't want to end up like the Yanks did with Soto. Guerrero Jr. is also a potential target if he hits free agency.

    Max Fried signs with MFY

Dang, really wanted him. Does that mean Burnes gets $250M+?

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

The thing with absorbing Xander's contract in exchange for Cease is, at that point, we're probably better off just signing Burnes or Fried (based on the projections I've seen, neither player is expected to get more than Xander's deal, though of course surprises can happen). That Xander deal is a...

    Time to trade Devers?

If the Royals are trading Ragans (not happening) because they want to rebuild further, why aren't they asking for Bello instead of Crawford? Ragans is already young and good, if I'm trading him then I'm looking to go as young as possible in return.

Boston’s taxing pursuit of Juan Soto is over. (Mets)

I do think the deal is an overpay because Soto is not a five-tool player. Below average defense and he's not a threat to steal bases. That said, his hitting is a 10/10, so the Mets are getting a generational hitter. Good for them. I've felt a wave of relief ever since the deal was announced...

    Time to trade Devers?

You don't think obtaining a legitimate ace, and fortifying the bullpen, would be an improvement over last year? There is no point to trading Devers, he is a good hitter on a good deal. If you trade him, you might as well trade Duran, Houck, and anybody even remotely close to 30 years of age...

    Time to trade Devers?

Look, I get it - you're probably emotionally drained because of how the Soto deal ended. Speaking for myself, that's the most I've been invested in any type of player acquisition since maybe A-Rod, so I am emotionally exhausted now (but glad that its over). However, after getting through my...
