2024 Playoffs Eastern Conference First Round: (2) New York Knicks vs (7) Philadelphia 76ers

He probably wasn't intentionally trying to injure Robinson's ankle, but he was intentionally trying to pull Robinson's ankle down while he was jumping... which predictably resulted in him hurting his ankle. Recklessness rather than maliciousness isn't really mitigating. Again, if Robinson did...

2024 Playoffs Eastern Conference First Round: (2) New York Knicks vs (7) Philadelphia 76ers

Did he actually make contact with Robinson? It certainly doesn't look like it, this isn't the phantom tag rule. It's not just a foul because he ripped the ball near a defender. And agreed with the above post - perceived non-calls is an absurd justification for injuring guys

2024 Playoffs Eastern Conference First Round: (2) New York Knicks vs (7) Philadelphia 76ers

I think that clearly should have been a flagrant 2, but two flagrant 1's also = ejection. He could have had gotten a flagrant on two other plays on top of that one. I think it's pretty easy to see how he could have been ejected in multiple different ways. My question still stands, would him...

2024 Playoffs Eastern Conference First Round: (2) New York Knicks vs (7) Philadelphia 76ers

The guy could have been ejected multiple different times, would that still count as legendary toughness? What level of dirty play is too much to you?

2024 Playoffs Eastern Conference First Round: (2) New York Knicks vs (7) Philadelphia 76ers

Embiid is easily good enough to dominate either way, but his cheap shots did at least tangentially help his numbers. He intentionally contributed to an opposing center going out with an injury, one who was playing pretty well and would have bothered Embiid at least a little. Embiid's other...

2024 Playoffs Eastern Conference First Round: (2) New York Knicks vs (7) Philadelphia 76ers

Clearly still stuck on Embiid's unique approach to the game tonight - I didn't see this one live, it may be up there with the most moving-y screen that wasn't called I've ever seen (maybe Bam has equaled it), honestly it's probably called a flagrant if it's a role player. Just a literal hockey...

2024 Playoffs Eastern Conference First Round: (2) New York Knicks vs (7) Philadelphia 76ers

Is yanking the opposing center's ankles while he's trying to jump part of the domination? Embiid certainly had a monster game statwise, when he was actually playing basketball he did it really really well. I'll remember his performance more for the Draymond / young Grayson Allen moves, though.

2024 Playoffs Eastern Conference First Round: (2) New York Knicks vs (7) Philadelphia 76ers

I think a playoff career high is even more impressive when you intentionally injure one of your primary defenders, it shows resourcefulness and that you can do it all yourself

Celtics vs Da Culture - Round 1 (FIGHT!)

The current Heat are such an inferior team that their only path to winning this series - and it's incredibly slim - is through that random 3 point variance. Sure, the Celtics don't control this variance, but they can create an environment that's less conducive to it. They have the defensive...

Celtics vs Da Culture - Round 1 (FIGHT!)

Well, someone did post in this thread earlier that the Heat shot 41.3% on wide-open threes this season. Which changes the math to 3 * .413 = 1.24 points per shot, which is meaningful. That Keith Smith tweet outright says that out of 43 Heat three point attempts, 37 were open. That's just an...

    4/24 - Schmidt vs. Boyle

As much as it sounds like that game had odd moments, also sounds like their best-played game maybe since the Guardians series. Nothing like facing a team that doesn't even have a home city to wake you up

    4/21 - Gil vs Civale

Yeah... it was almost weird how good they were. And their run differential actually matched it from what I recall.

    4/19: Alexander vs. Schmidt

That went well if you're a Yankee fan. Soto is even more predatory in terms of jumping on certain pitches than I anticipated. You just know of him as a guy that controls the strike zone so you assume he's more passively dominant... but with him it translates more to vicious swings when he's got...

Sorry, I'm here, just intensely unreliable. Will try to be more useful in the future

Shohei Ohtani’s attorneys accuse interpreter of ‘massive theft’ tied to alleged gambling

This bookmaker actually seems pretty chill for a guy who does illegal things for a living and is owed tens of millions of now-unrecoverable dollars by someone being investigated by the feds

Shohei Ohtani’s attorneys accuse interpreter of ‘massive theft’ tied to alleged gambling

Pre-withholdings (California at the top tax bracket, so that's essentially 50% gone), pre-agent-cut, and pre-purchases. He must have bought some real estate, paid some limited salaries of his reps, maybe made some illiquid investments that couldn't easily be stolen, etc

Shohei Ohtani’s attorneys accuse interpreter of ‘massive theft’ tied to alleged gambling

So Mizuhara, after paying the stolen $16M of his $40M debt, was still $24M in the hole to the bookie? I'm amazed an illegal bookmaking operation has the liquidity to allow someone to get that far in debt. No wonder the feds care, this must be a giant racket

Shohei Ohtani’s attorneys accuse interpreter of ‘massive theft’ tied to alleged gambling

Right, I meant how much money he'd made prior to the 2023 season ($30M salary in 2023, ~$10M in salaries prior to that, plus the $2.5M signing bonus), just for context on how this theft amount was potentially near to or more than Ohtani's entire net worth just several months earlier

Shohei Ohtani’s attorneys accuse interpreter of ‘massive theft’ tied to alleged gambling

$16M is a TON of money for someone that, prior to 2023, had only made like $13M pretax from his MLB salaries. Ohtani obviously has had endorsements, baseball income in Japan, etc, but that is a super meaningful amount of money even to him (at least until he signed his $700M contract, which this...
