    Rick Porcello: What's Wrong?

I know pace of play rules are there for a reason... but maybe he should slow it down a touch. He's only 26, but should have thrown enough major league innings to have a better feel for what he's doing. Like I said, I really hope this is what the problem is, because it sounds really correctable.

"This too shall pass" ---- righting the ship for 2016

Right, at the time most people thought it was a good break... that it was time to part ways. It seems like there's this revisionist history going on where people see the looming juggernaut that Theo built in Chicago and the recent last place finishes for the Red Sox and are remembering Theo as...

"This too shall pass" ---- righting the ship for 2016

To be fair though, they misjudged a lot of players. Maybe he just got mixed up. Thinking Youk could handle a move back to 3B was a big leap and didn't really pay off for a Gold Glove 1B. They misjudged Andrew Bailey, Mark Melancon, Josh Reddick, Joel Hanrahan, Josh Fields, Ryan Dempster, Jose...

"This too shall pass" ---- righting the ship for 2016

People seem to forget this. Sure, Theo's last draft in 2011 was pretty good, but 2010 and 2009 weren't... the farm system was bottom third to middle of the pack when he left.    The team was also on the hook for a disastrous Carl Crawford contract, no catcher of the future (a position which...

Red Sox Deadline Discussion (nothing is credible) thread

Holt is a sparkplug.   He's a good baserunner, a very strong defensive player with the flexibility to play 7 positions (I'd still like to see him pitch and catch in a 9 position game/publicity stunt in September), he's fast, a strong basestealer, and he can hit.   He's also still developing. ...

    Rick Porcello: What's Wrong?

From the article:     Why is he doing that? That's literally the opposite of what you're supposed to do with a two-seamer. I'm not a pitching guru, but a two-seamer sacrifices velocity for movement. Overthrowing it would flatten it out and get crushed. If that's indeed what Porcello is doing...

    Tulo Traded to Toronto

I wouldn't say I'm a Rockies fan... but living in Denver I'd like to see baseball do well here. If this deal brings them pitching, and flipping Reyes brings more pitching, then this could end up being a great set of moves for the Rockies. They've got Story and Gray in AAA... and a fairly good...

    Rusney Castillo Conundrum

Even then, he would have had about 4 hours to get his stuff, drive to Fenway, warm up. Seems like a lot

Shane Victorino and cash considerations to LAA for INF Josh Rutledge.

Is take him over Weeks as infield depth and an occasional starter at 2B when Holt needs to move and spell someone

    Rusney Castillo Conundrum

I'm kind of interested in the behind the scenes stuff here. Castillo is starting today. How did he get to Boston in time? Was he already up with the team because the org knew something was up? Did he have time pregame warm ups and BP?

Shane Victorino and cash considerations to LAA for INF Josh Rutledge.

What would we get that's more valuable than Holt? I mean the team kind of hit the lottery when they traded Miller last season... But small deals for guys like Holt aren't going to provide us a lot of value in a trade. We might get a prospect or two neither who would likely help us in 2016 and...

    Thank you, Shane Victorino

Shane sacrificed his body to win the 2013 WS. I'm grateful for his contributions. Without him, there's no championship in 2013.

    Rusney Castillo Conundrum

Why Castillo and not JBJ who's killing the ball in AAA?

Shane Victorino and cash considerations to LAA for INF Josh Rutledge.

Not bad. We added a replacement level infielder with a couple more years of team control and an outfield spot.

    Trade deadline predictions

I misread that as "C (as in catcher) prospect/throw-ins." Derp.  I change my vote to that from B prospects.

"This too shall pass" ---- righting the ship for 2016

If the front office trades JBJ without giving him another shot on the big league roster, it will be infuriating. What the hell is the point of all this suckage if we can't be a little patient. We're losing, the fanbase is resigned to losing this season.  Yes, like WBCD said, they got killed in...

Red Sox Deadline Discussion (nothing is credible) thread

Who cares? Get something, anything for him.  Let Nava play 1B against righties and Holt/Whatever righty they want vs. lefties? It's only a month until they can call up the whole 40 man. Can Bryce Brentz play 1B? Give him a go, who cares? Napoli was great in 2013 and 2014 for us. I love the...

Red Sox Deadline Discussion (nothing is credible) thread

Is that really insane? Napoli is gone next season no matter what happens. Why not get something for him now?  Also, I think nearly everyone wants to trade Sandoval... it's just impossible.

"This too shall pass" ---- righting the ship for 2016

My argument is that they should have been giving him regular playing time in Boston weeks ago. If he's still not called up after the deadline, or if he's dealt before getting another chance in the majors, I'll be even more concerned about the franchise's approach.

Red Sox Deadline Discussion (nothing is credible) thread

The fact he was awesome in 2013 and decent in 2014... And the fact that we're better off with a player who will be around next season getting PT than Napoli.
