You could also play with the mound height and distance to the plate.

    SS possibilities going forward

This is where I land as well. If you have choose defense or offense (which I agree you will), I'd take defense first.

Robo strikezone: Not as simple as you think -- Baseball Prospectus

It also seems to cut down on all the heated arguments and, presumably, ump show ejections. Don’t like the call? Tap your helmet, the call gets made precisely, everyone moves right along.

Feats of Mookie - 2024 Angst & Awe

We'll probably never know for sure but the truth is usually in tones of gray. Mookie probably was open to staying and leaving and the team only wanted him to stay at a certain value and they just weren't going to connect. Seems ludicrous that they undervalued him like they did and that is the...

A’s have signed a binding agreement to purchase land for a future ballpark in Las Vegas.

I assume the novelty of having an MLB team will drive up ticket sales, even with a very bad home team, and with limited capacity the prices could get quite high for regular families wanting to see a game.

Exactly, this is going to get so much worse before it gets better and it may be completely ruined by the end of it. I can't believe MLB let this happen but JMOH is right about Manfred. I honestly feel awful for the players.

    March/April 2024 MLB Gamethread

It’s cliche to say now but that Dodgers lineup is just insane. Mookie-Ohtani-Freeman-Will Smith-Muncy to start things off. It’s unfair

    4.1 - Easter Funday

I rewatched Moneyball over the weekend with my casual-fan-fiancé who is from the east bay, and the quote from the movie "how can you not be romantic about baseball" sums up those really good A's teams nicely. The Coliseum is awful but I love it too, lots of good memories there. But stomp the...

    Let's Talk About Bello

Can we assume, though, that he'll continue to work on the 4 seamer? If he can bring it back as an effective pitch (maybe situationally this year) he'd really go to the next level. I'd hate for him to lose it completely.

    2023-2024 General NBA Season Thread

I'm a little late here but it's just that no one cares anymore. The team was publicly deflated by getting gutted at the trade deadline two years in a row despite playing decently up until that point both seasons, and as a result they are losing basically every game now. There was a report that...

3/28/24 - Opening Day 2024 - Red Sox at Mariners

Sox are going to be pretty good this year, a little better than last year. Prospects will progress nicely. They'll use all this to go grab a really good pitcher before the deadline and sneak into the playoffs. Then anything can happen. And it starts with a win tonight. ...or they suck, who knows

This was a good lesson to never trust BYU on any level. They are bad people with bad fans and deserve every disappointment that comes their way. Utah to win the NIT! :)

    Offseason rumors

I'd imagine a lot of the calculus is whether the player has a family. Professional athletes spend a relatively small amount of their time in the city they play in between all the travel and off season, so if it were me it I'd follow the money and live in a mansion in ND for a smaller percentage...

    MLB Expansion Watch

Utah Legislature approves Fairpark District, framework for MLB ballpark funding I'm not a fan of public financing for stadiums but I am a fan of getting a team here so I'll probably just stay internally conflicted on this one.

    MLB Expansion Watch

Talent will be diluted by definition, there is no way around that. The question is whether talent has been concentrated enough since the last expansion that the dilution will reset the talent level to an acceptable level. I have no doubt fewer kids are playing baseball (or any sport, for that...
