Casas to IL with left rib strain. Tyler Heineman is up

Yeah, I caught that as well. I think that may have been Sunday. But I think Cora also mentioned on Saturday that O'Neill was experiencing some light headedness. Hopefully he's past that.

Dave McCarty,, 1b for 2004 Red Sox passes away.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already, but the cause of death seem's to have been a "cardiac event". https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-red-sox/2024/04/21/dave-mccarty-red-sox-dies-obituary/

Also regarding the use of RFsnyder... If for some reason O'Neill is unable to return as hoped tomorrow, this might have some bearing on RFsnyder's usage at 1B.

He's definitely an in-house option as are Reyes and Dalbec. I believe that Cora mentioned this yesterday pre-game. In the short term this is what we are likely to see until A) There is a more definitive timetable on Casas B) There is a path toward moving Kavadas onto the 40 man C) A longer...

2024 Lineup (What we actually have - no trade speculation.)

One thought on this... We have to remember that as a guy who is primarily a 1B DH type and with Dalbec on the depth chart ahead of him, Niko is not likely to occupy a 40 man spot. If Dalbec was a legit MLB talent and on the big team as the regular CI option, Kavadas might have a place on the 40...

Pittsgburgh 4/21, the Nod Goes to Winck

Oh for sure, but with a short bench you're then losing your DH and limiting PH for pitcher options. Admittedly that may be looking more forward than necessary. I only mentioned it because the possibility of losing the DH was discussed in game.

Just to add to this if I may. The use and Andersen's response thus far has really benefited the staff. This is the second time now that Anderson has come in and tossed multiple innings to finish out the game on the day before an off day. It's huge when you can gift the majority of the pen with...

The 40 man doesn't currently show Walter as being on the IL. Moving on from Hamilton in some way might also do the trick.

ATM it seems that the only realistic options for 60 IL might be Mata (I've no idea what his status is) and Casas should they if/when they determine it's necessary.

Casas to IL with left rib strain. Tyler Heineman is up

If we're looking at replacing Casas for a couple of months (BTW we and the Sox won't know that for sure until the results from Casas' most recent scan, scheduled for today I think, are in) most FA types are likely to take at least half of that time to get into playing shape. Should Casas miss...

Casas to IL with left rib strain. Tyler Heineman is up

Is he actually playing anywhere ATM? From what I could see the Reds DFAed him last June and haven't found anything more recent on his status.

I'm not sure if/how this has affected him this year, but Walsh may not be a great option at this point. An article from last May... https://theathletic.com/4495101/2023/05/06/angels-jared-walsh-neurological-issues/

This is an interesting question. To date this pitching staff has far outperformed anyone's expectations. The sustainability at this level is unlikely, but it would really be a nice show of support to try to fill the possible hole that Casas is going to leave. In addition to the pitching there...
