    Agree. Don’t understand why he’s hitting 3 — and why he was hitting high in the order when he returned last year. He’s yet to prove capable of producing in that spot for the Sox. Right now, I’d flip him and O’Neill — at minimum. If Ceddanne keeps making contact, I might flip him further down.

    I’m a big fan of “pitching backwards.” Throw off-speed for strikes and discomfort, surprise with fastballs. Obviously wouldn’t apply to a 99 percentile flamethrower like Clemens or NRyan. But those guys are few. I like what Bailey’s doing. Hope they can keep it up.

    Sox went in there last year right after the All-Star break -- after sweeping the A's at Fenway a week earlier -- needing to win the series and lost 2 out of 3. Take nothing for granted. If they want to give games away, take them. And keep taking them.

    Re: the bolded -- Jumped out at me in the bottom of the first when he was in position in the middle of the infield to take the cut from O'Neill on the single with JRod on second. He was MIA on that play a lot last year. Bodes well for knowing where to go and where to throw.
