If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

Yeah, it's been a wild ride. Obviously nothing is certain until they get in there, but I'll take the win? I had dinner last night w/my adventure buddies, they are heading down to Rock Creek today to go do a multi-day tour down there. We have some thunderstorms forecast; hopefully they get snow...

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

My season isn't dead yet...(I mean, it is but...) As alluded above PLC is a concern for my dueling surgeon's. One is sure it's toast, the other thinks it's fine. Nothing a second MRI can tell you, just have to get scoped. (Surgery sometime in May, I would have done it sooner, but soccer, Bat...

The Best Damn 3-21 Little League Team On The Planet!

Shaun, this is such a great story. As the coach of the B team (Studly Duds as they call themselves), this really hit home. You were never my coach, my kid's coach, or even in my orbit, but I want to say thank you, from my kids, to being someone's coach of this caliber. Youth sports would be...

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

It fixes itself...allegedly! It's a grade 2, so anywhere from 10-90% torn, not a big range or anything...Doc said it was fine. 3 months it would be strong like ox.

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

Hell ya! MRI and doc came back. Pretty stoked. LCL torn, probable tear in ACL. BUT, if one were to tear their ACL, based on MRI, this is the way to do it. Doc thinks 50/50 on surgery. Felt confident that PT for 5 weeks will answer the question. Not allowed to run on the beach (good, who does...

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

Talking with my buddy over there, they did 8k' today, but lots of rockfall and avalanches all around them. He said yesterday was pretty hairy as well. Looks like they got snow on the 16th?

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

I saw that. And if the skier didn't get pinned on the outcrop for sure swept over that cliff. Waiting for the report to hit the internets. Be very interesting to see the after action on it. What were the conditions leading up, etc. I do see there have been some Serac falls this month, but that...

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

Yeah, just edited my above. Holy. Shit. Dead right? I mean, that cat gets funneled to looker right and what would then appear to be fully pegged against that outcrop. Solo or not, that's a huge ride and the skier probably died on the way down. Man, that's scary shit. Edit: I've watched this...

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

Honestly, it was my first comment to ski patrol. I am so grateful for the culture shift in skiing. When I was a young lad, helmets were for goobers and no one wore them. Then all the ski racers who had either washed out or couldn't make it started doing big air, big mountain, etc. and kept their...

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

Love this so much! Tried to kill myself on Saturday. Just got out of the Ortho's, MRI sometime next week. Went for the wildest ride of my life and for the life of me, I have no idea how I did it. Just rippin and vibing all day in perfect spring condition snow. Dropped into Detonator and blew...

    NWSL 2024

We took our girls to a Thorns game last fall, and it was a total blast. We got to see Morgan score and my youngest had done her hair like Bixby. (They got a stuffed pig and named it Pixby....) I was totally floored that 1) they play on turf and 2) Portland gets more rain than London, hence the...

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

Gorgeous day in the backcountry today. Tahoe got 100” out of this last storm and it did not disappoint! We did 3 runs, 2100 in vert. Breaking trail was no joke Mostly consolidated but there was a graupel layer about 135cm down. During our tests no reaction but with a shovel you got shear...

Dude, they were just the perfect boot. Comfortable from day 1. Held their shape amazing. Went through I don't know how many toe/heel pieces over the years. Finally had to scour the internet for the last set of replacements and knew their time was up. Breaks my heart to have to replace them, but...

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

It wasn't even the sketch, it was just all the obstacles. Snow snakes, land mines, etc. Really didn't want to mess my skis up (tools, not toys, I know, but still), or take a digger on a 45 degree slope (like I did 30 minutes prior). Tahoe has had a pretty dismal year, especially compared to last...

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

Looks like the bunny turned around too :p . Super cool photos and trip though! They finally opened The Chutes at my resort last week. Coverage was pretty spotty up high. I managed to pop a ski (Don't ask, much shame) and had to hike up about 20' to get it. It was a little sketchy as I was...

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

EVERY TIME. I learn something new every time I go out. Those AT bindings were such a nightmare the first time! And there are so many schools of thought on your platforms! I go with one guy who will tell you that if you use your risers you are doing it wrong. More kick turns! (of course sometimes...

Not necessarily. There is a ton that goes into this. Day one, fresh on frozen = nightmare. Think of water on glass. Doesn't take much angle to make it slide. (Fun fact, that is why avalanche danger in Japan is so wild. Bamboo, being so flexible, lays down instead of standing up as an anchor...

If You Want Big Air, Pull My Finger - Ski and Ride 23-24

Get a guide and get a lesson. Your legs will still burn, but burn less! There is a lot of great/easy technique to make your uphill easier. Simple things like smaller strides and keeping your toe down. It's such a great adder to traditional downhill, glad you had fun!
