Why Are the Patriots So Good?

Conditioning is also a big factor. You’d think all pro teams would be fit but they aren’t. I suspect part of this that culturally many strength coaches are so obsessed with fast twitch muscle that they’ve ditched running and don’t even like doing high reps (read: more than three) of squats and...

    The Nation's Tears: Volume III

That was then: Celebrating what was

That's always struck me the same way as Mick Jagger saying he'd rather be dead than sing Satisfaction at age 45. It's easy to say but harder to walk away from the money, fame, and most of all, status that comes from being on top.

Felger and Mazz - Creating False Naratives one day at a time

My standard public service announcement: get a library card and download Hoopla and Overdrive. There are a million sports audiobooks that are more informative and entertaining than sports talk radio.

World Series 2018--Red Sox vs. Dodgers

I don't think there is much baseball can do to promote superstars, even if Mike Trout did home run dances. MLB teams play six days out of seven so there isn't much pent-up demand for baseball that the home team can't satisfy. At least in the NBA your team plays maybe three games a week, so more...

Do you want LeBron on the Celtics?

What Devil's Bargain? Miami got two titles and with better breaks could have had two more. Miami wasn't going to win a title without LeBron. And they wouldn't have gotten free agents like Ray Allen without LeBron. Cleveland got a title, should have had a second without the miserable injury...

Do you want LeBron on the Celtics?

I've flip-flopped on this one. I used to agree with you, but I've come to realize that I enjoy championships more when (A) the team is likable, and (B) they were developed organically through the draft/trades. I'm more of a baseball fan than a basketball fan, but I've been following the Celtics...

    The 2018 NBA Draft

So did I. It was easy to fall for the Chad Ford draft hype for Darko: Good times.

Greened Illusion: Lebron to the Celtics

I think someone should start a thread with a poll of LeBron's possible destinations ... I'm voting for LA. LeBron, Paul, and Kawhi on the same team is pretty scary. I think LeBron likes older players better than young kids and that will keep him from choosing Philly.

    Best baseball books for kids

I was never into baseball as a kid but I bought Men at Work by George Will for my stepfather. I got hooked and read the whole thing (supercarefully so I wouldn’t wrinkle the spine) before Christmas. I was only a little older than your son is now.

    2018 NBA Finals

Because I'm a dad with kids, I'll go to bed at halftime. But even if the Cavs are leading by 12 I think I'll wake up to find out they lost by 20.

    Celtics vs. the Lebronaires

I think it’s easy to over-moralize the loss, and there plenty of nits to pick, I think it came down to the fact that the Celtics just didn’t have the offensive skill to consistently make the shots.

    NBA playoffs 2018

I think the difference is that GSW and Cleveland had an easy time reaching the finals last year.

    Hayward's Injury

Sports fans live excessively in the moment. Even on SoSH. Celtics are up 2-1. And just like in game 2, the unfairly maligned adage “the series doesn’t begin until the road team wins a game” still applies. The Celtics have a chance to go up a break

    Jaylen or Tatum?

Hmmm, I've always thought it was Antetokounmpo or the Greek Freak, but I guess I'm the outlier.

    Jaylen or Tatum?

Tatum's one-legged fadeaway: Antetokounmpo says hello. (Not being snarky, just interested in the process of formalizing how we refer to athletes) I wonder if people are more informal with athletes on the home team?

    Jaylen or Tatum?

I would love to see a graph of the phrase "in Ainge we trust" on this board. I'm guessing it didn't really start exploding until the win streak at the start of the season. Would anyone here trade Brown for either Simmons or Ingram straight up (contract included)? With Simmons there has always...

Sherman’s March From the SEA - Richard Sherman Speculation Thread

If there is one life lesson I've somehow managed to learn, it's not to listen to gossip. There are two sides to every story. As TB12 says, everyone has their own truth. Sherman and his posse, whups, I mean buddies, might have acted exactly as Fl4wless described above. Or maybe he wanted a selfie...

Sherman’s March From the SEA - Richard Sherman Speculation Thread

Not sure if it’s relevent in Sherman’s case or not, but a new surgical technique for the Achilles called “mini open” has a great success rate on getting NFL players back on the field...

That was then: Celebrating what was

Great article, but I think it goes beyond Bill being a tough and detail oriented coach. I think a lot of football programs (at all levels) actively hurt themselves because there's such a strong mindset in promoting strength and explosiveness. I remember my old strength books, such as the one by...
