How will the Sox do in 2020?

yeah, this threw me a bit too. i was thinking 89 wins but that is included in two different poll options so I just went with the higher one

It was hyperbole. I know you can get your draft pick dropped for going over by $40m now. The point was that the lack of a salary cap has primed baseball fans at large for miseries that other sports prepare us to expect.

    Mookie Betts 2020 FA Watch

If we believe he declined 10/300, and we know that Trout got an AAV of ~35.5 mil, what do we reasonably believe a) would have been a big enough extension offer last winter for Mookie to take it? b) the market price will be for him in November?

    Our ownership group

This is part of it, to be sure. No consistent manager or GM or FO folks for even half of the last 20 years, really. (Theo was probably the closest, thanks to the glorious Cherington/Hoyer reign). Seven managers over 20 years when 3 of them have won World Series and none of them retired is...

Thank you Brock Holt (signs with Brewers, now with Nats, got 1 AB at Fenway on 8/29)

Brock Holt, in addition to being an incredible part of the community, was one of those players who made bad games, bad seasons a little brighter because of his hustle, his flexibility, and his personality. He's gonna be beloved in Milwaukee, and anywhere else he goes after that. :redwine:

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

there's plenty of evidence to suggest that he was either present for the assault or affiliated in some way with those who committed it, both of which are crimes. that's more than enough reason to investigate, even if you think the victim isn't going to be cooperative. if he wasn't, then why...

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

why are you trying so hard to find an out for this kid?

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

the short answer to each of those questions is no, i think. ages of the women doing the assaulting don't matter. assault of a minor is dependent on the victim's age, not the relative ages of those involved. honestly, him being present for the assault could probably result in being charged with...

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

In all likelihood accessory to criminal assault and battery of a minor

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

i'm pretty sure this was after kapler ran it up the chain of command but also she's a minor, and there were witnesses (edit: and cell phone video!), you don't need her cooperation to investigate and press charges

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

it's such a mess that we even have to ask this question he should have gone to the goddamn police

MLB’s sign-stealing controversy broadens: Sources say the Red Sox used video replay room illegally in 2018

Yeah, that was one of the more striking parts of the article. The whole thing is striking, honestly. People calling it a "bombshell" on Twitter were not really lying

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

sorry, i was just pointing out a psycho-social concept that is at play here using an obvious, commonly known analogy that people could easily understand and relate to did not realize that was verboten. won't happen again

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

it'd be like Wilmer Flores but exponentially bigger

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

Oh, I know his math is correct (barring something very unusual happening) but he's been banging the drum so hard on Verdugo and totally ignoring all the off the field and injury issues, too.

a few! some I can't divulge because of HIPAA laws, but one I can because it was not in a privileged context was John Legere, the CEO of T-Mobile. He's pretty out there, and he's one of the more down to earth ones I've met.
