    Red Sox Deadline Discussion

Drew can quality defensive backup at short or third in case of injury.  Dodgers have the large ballpark that can help a struggling pitcher regain confidence.  With Clay's talent, the might think him worth the risk and he's cost controlled.  Kemp perfect for Fenway.

    Red Sox Deadline Discussion

If you want to tweak it fine.  Keep in mind Clay's struggles and the Dodgers willing to unload Kemp.  Buchholz is an anchor all right, in the wrong sense, but may be ok in big ballparks in N.L. West.  Hardly a "wild" trade rumor. There is potential.

How does Steven Drew and Clay Buchholz for Matt Kemp at 50% of his salary sound?

PeteAbe: Orioles close to Lester deal. Or not.

Miguel Gonzalez? lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.  Getting short of breath.

Trading Jon Lester (news and speculation thread)

Miller is too much of a risk to trade our ace.  Conversation should start with Oscar Taveras as this team badly needs a stud young hitter.  Carlos Martinez would be a great add in a potentially larger deal.

Trading Jon Lester (news and speculation thread)

The Red Sox short term contract approach assures that no top level free agent sets foot in Boston, including Lester.  Shields is a level below elite and he might consider it, but it's very unlikely.  Considering his terrible track record at Fenway, I don't even think about Shields.

Trading Jon Lester (news and speculation thread)

Lester is the exception.  The Red Sox blew it big time with Lester, who could have continued to be thier ace and a great example to the young pitchers coming up.  Instead, they are prioritizing a 39-year-old closer  whose end of career is likely very close for a team next year who has a very...

Trading Jon Lester (news and speculation thread)

I think Lester will go and we have to take Matt Kemp at about half price along with getting Joc Pederson as part of a larger deal.  The Red Sox and Dodgers are linked by thier last big trade which enabled the Red Sox to win the 2013 World Series and I think the Red Sox don't mind keeping the...

The Red Sox are not making sense

I really have to wonder about the baseball acumen of the Red Sox front office this year.  First we had Larry Lucchino low-balling Jon Lester.  Then we had Steven Drew signed for $10 million for a patial season just when Xander Bogaerts was starting to hit.  Who moves thier top prospect to...

    Angst von Buchholz

This is the year where Clay's raw talent combined with his experience should have led to consistent success.  He should be competing with Lester for staff ace.  No more waiting.  Check him out thoroughly.  He won't be able to follow through properly if his shoulder is not at full strength.  More...

Hot Stove Rumors 2014, Part Deux

I think the Red Sox have a greater need to develop Owens to give the Sox a third quality starter behind Lester and Clay as opposed to acquiring Stanton.  Middlebrooks himself could develop into an effective power bat.  Remember, Lackey, Dempster and Peavy are all on the downside of their careers...

    Hot Stove Wishes

Let me rephrase.  Bradley has not shown good plate discipline in his brief MLB stint (as in drawing walks) along with a pretty high strikeout rate.  I understand he shows much better patience with his minor league numbers.  Until he shows a good month of drawing walks and getting on base in the...

    Hot Stove Wishes

I think I would switch Nava to leadoff and Bradley to 8th for 2014.  Nava can get on base while Bradley needs to learn plate discipline.  But Ortiz is so due for a decline that a strong bat should be added to hit behind him.  Perhaps Billy Butler, Carlos Beltran or Mark Trumbo. ...

    Hot Stove Wishes

I think Billy Butler playing 81 games in Fenway as a good bat in his prime becomes a potential masher with a good lineup around him.  No Lester, C. Buchholz, Bogaerts, or Owens in any trade for Butler, but I'd certainly kick the trade tires with KC.  Butler is signed through 2014 with a team...

    Hot Stove Wishes

Ruiz has a little pop and he may hit for higher average in Fenway with help from our left field wall.  Ruiz might get the edge with less years and money and no loss of a draft pick.  But McCann has proven capability to work with young pitchers (Medlen, Teheran and Minor) and that is...
