Might as well start talking about 2021

Yes, and the fact that the rebuild starting with that signing that took place on the last day of August 1993 until the championship some 134 months later was a long process. Yes, he was part of the 1999 and 2003 playoff teams, but the emphasis of rebuilds is time. I don't believe it will be 11...

Might as well start talking about 2021

There were rebuilds in the 1930s, 1940s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and finally the ultimate rebuild from the signing of Trot Nixon to the fruition of 2004 and 2007. One more rebuild? Take your time.

    Let's talk about this ballclub.

I don't believe that JWH et al believe that they "ain't seen nuthin' like the Mighty Quinn."

Win tonight in order NOT to make history. Even the 1932 team won 1 game in the Bronx.

    Let's talk about this ballclub.

Here is the entire list of Red Sox teams that began the season (22 games if/when the current squad loses tonight) 10 games under .500). In some cases, 10 games under .500 was reached earlier than game 22, noted in parenthesis: 1906 6-16 1927 6-16 (5-15) 1932 4-18 (3-13) 1996 6-16 (3-13)...

    Worst Team Ever?

The truly bad baseball in 2012 commenced on August 1st, not August 25th. Not one of those teams on your list outside of 2012 was 53-51 after 104 games. The 7-16 (.304) that preceded the 9-26 was just as awful. 16-42 is the WORST finish in Red Sox history, including every team on your list...

    Let's talk about this ballclub.

16-42 to end 2012 is the record to "aspire". No Red Sox team in history had a worse winning percentage over the final 58 games of any season.

    RIP John McNamara

Sammy Stewart was never used throughout the entire playoffs. Here is the explanation per https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/sammy-stewart/ McNamara may not have cottoned to some of his clowning in the clubhouse, but Grossfeld says Stewart told him that he wound up in the doghouse due to a time the...

    Let's talk about this ballclub.

Even 1981, the last significantly shortened year had more excitement. I take this as combination of 1984 (finding out who can pitch) and 1987 (finding out who can hit) in the same year. If it turns out no one, then the tax reset is what we get.

Red Sox pitching carousel thread (our pitching is HISTORICALLY bad)

I meant the Red Sox futility records, but you are correct.

Red Sox pitching carousel thread (our pitching is HISTORICALLY bad)

Sixteen wins or fewer would set the futility record percentage wise. (43-111, .279, 88 years ago). 62-100 .383 in 1965 would be the equivalent to 23-37 for 2020, so those who seek utility from this futility may ultimately enjoy this "panoply" of pitching.

How much have you watched so far?

This has all the excitement of the Major League Baseball I watched in July 1981 and September 1994.

Here's another example: https://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1956/Knewcd1014191956.htm Don Newcombe had better performances in the World Series, but these were his last two.

    Happy Patriot's Day

The last Patriots' Day game I attended was Rosie Ruiz's moment of infamy forty years ago today, a warm sunny day. There was also an eighth inning comeback to beat the White Sox 9-8 in that forgetful season.

    1975 World Series re-watch

Musial went 6 for 27 (.222). Harry Walker, Enos Slaughter and Joe Garagiola had better series. The killer was Dom DiMaggio's muscle pull sliding into second in the top of the eighth. Slaughter, as he has stated in the past would not have challenged DiMaggio's fielding acumen in the bottom of...

Post Your Favorite Johnny Most Lines Here

    Yankees Stallin' For a Tie

It was unfortunate that the Red Sox did not play well against Detroit that year, because they were 9-3 against the champion Athletics. All 6 home games against the Athletics were played in one weekend series in late July due to rainouts in the first week of May. The Red Sox took four out of six...
