Former SoSH Greats in the media (Simmons and SeanBerry Megathread)

"Culling the Mullet Herd" following the Station Nightclub fire (if I recall correctly)? One of the more tasteless thread titles I can recall.

West Ham 23-24, now with Silverware

Well -- color me shocked. A visit to Goodison is usually a point at best. But after the predictable 85 minutes of crap -- with Areola and Alvarez playing balls-out and everyone else looking like they should be arrested for loitering -- they came alive. It has typically NOT been the West Ham way...

Alex Van Pelt named Patriots OC

His kid, Bradlee Van Pelt, was a QB. I just learned that Brad Van Pelt died about 15 years ago. I had no idea. Growing up in E. Lansing, he was a big name. One of the very few noteworthy Spartans between 1966 and the mid/late '70s (when guys like Kirk Gibson, Larry Bethea, Mark Brammer, Morten...

    RIP Phil Bissell

Enberg keeps calling Rolf Benirschke "Ber-nish-ka." What's the deal? He was better than that.

    Harbaugh to LAC

Cope had Gottfried's nasal inflection, but Gottfried didn't have the yinzer accent.

    Jim Palmer Files Fraud Suit

I'm old enough to remember him from his playing days (born in '70 so I go back to about '77) and my memory of him from that age is as someone who was in the All-Star game every year and was a big name but who I never saw pitch much. Part of it may have been injuries -- I remember him missing...

Ryne Sandberg has metastatic prostate cancer

My primary care guy does the rectal prostate exam (which, at 53, I definitely dread each year). Is it still considered useful? And is the blood test more useful? My doc is pretty good and it's easy to get in to see him when I need to, but I hate that part of the physical and it causes me to put...

    2024 HOF Ballot

Tell that to a Yankee fan arguing that Berra is the GOAT and not Bench (though it's not a TERRIBLE argument) or that Dumbo and Munson should have been no-doubt about it first ballot HOFers.

    2024 HOF Ballot

The postseason W-L record for his teams doesn't really feel like a reflection on Mauer himself. but I do agree with your assessment here. I'm sure I watched several dozen games over the years that Joe Mauer played in, and I'm sure I was conscious of what he was doing in the moment, but I can't...

    2024 HOF Ballot

He did get smeared by a Grade A jackass. But he wasn't an altogether great dude either. He was a complicated guy. We all are.

Late to chime in. But this deserves recognition.

    Everything Zen: 2023 Michigan Football

I wanted Sainristil to get it because he's one of my 3 or 4 favorite Wolverines of all time and he played such a huge role in by and large keeping UW's receivers underneath. Plus key tackles and the INT. But Johnson really shut down their most dangerous WR for the most part AND had that great...

CFB 2023 Bowls & Championships: The *best* gosh darn thread a television executive could ask for

My avatar may suggest bias, but that was not a terrible holding call. The hold prevented a sack and it's the only reason he got the throw off to begin with.

Just What is Apex Mountain: Rewatchables discussion thread

Other than American Pie, it's been a while since he's done one that interested me -- either I'd seen it but it wasn't a memorable enough movie to spend a commute listening to him talk about it or it was something I hadn't seen and didn't have any interest in seeing.

    Everything Zen: 2023 Michigan Football

Me too. Bama's receivers had a very hard time getting open downfield. Penix has an absolutely elite arm, but if Michigan's secondary can bottle up the U-Dub receivers the same way, Penix isn't the same kind of running threat as Millroe when everyone is coveres. I'm still already nervous.
