    Odds and Ends

Looking at players with a 10 bWAR season, these 3 also fit the no black ink bill. Lou Boudreau in 1948 Rico petrocelli in 1969 Arod in 2000 https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/WAR_bat_season.shtml (May be more, didn’t check it exhaustively and it’s 6 AM too)

    Patriots sign RB Antonio Gibson

This guy had 25 in 1295, but seemed to cut down on them later in his career.

    Offseason rumors

I enjoyed the season JT had and would have been happy to have him back at the right price, but the bit by Cotillo about him being one of the best one-year Sox is a bit hyperbolic. That makes him sound more like Beltre in 2010 or Nick Esasky in 1989, when he was really more like Cody Ross in...

2024 Mock Drafts are more fun than this boring, awful Patriots Team

I wonder how much extra benefit getting Devontez Walker along with Maye at 3 since they would presumably already have some chemistry together.

Official Patriots 2024 Draft Pick Watch Thread (#3)

This guy succeeded at getting like $19M of the steinbrenners money for 1 hit. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hensodr01.shtml (Side note, was today years old when I learned the reds had traded him back to the Yankees for one prospect named Wily Mo Pena.)

    International signings - 2024

As long as he didn’t get alcohol problems from his cousin Vinny’s side of the family.

To Exceed the CBT, or not . . . that is the question

If they don't spend up to the threshold on FAs, and similar to looking for extensions for their players...are there any injured FAs out there that they can sign to Paxton type contracts (2+ year deal, looking towards 2025+). I think Brandon Woodruff was discussed around here at the start of FA...

    Offseason rumors

That’s got to be Jensen they’ve got in mind (doubt they’d get much for Story or Yoshida at this point without subsidizing heavily). I guess Martin’s 7.5M could go too if they like Houck to slide into that role and Whitlock to return to form back in the bp.

Should Joe West be in Cooperstown?

Or too bad he wasn't there instead of Tim Tschida or Rick Reed in 1999. #notstillbitter

    The Celtics with Bias

One question is whether they still would have taken Lewis if Bias had lived. I guess Lewis was more of a long SG and DJ was still getting up there, and Lewis had the Boston connection from playing at NE. The other question is if KC Jones would have buried him on the bench the same way he did...

    Red Sox Riddles

Not Red Sox related, but of the Yankees 27 WS, only 7 have occurred while this has also been true: their first 4 and none since the Eisenhower administration.

    Red Sox Riddles

Looks like the Orioles had Dick Williams, Darrell Johnson and Whitey Herzog. Earlier in the season they had bought Johnson from the Reds, who also would have Eddie Kasko and Don Zimmer on their 62 roster.

    Red Sox Riddles

You’re on the right track. A hint is that I got the inspiration from the bref main Red Sox franchise page that I had up to solve your Macfayden-Devers one.

    Red Sox Riddles

What will the 2024 Red Sox have in common with the 2018, 2010, 1971, and the 1957 squads? (Slightly different criteria would also add in the 1973, 1964, and 1963 teams as well)

The Michael McCorkle "Mac" Jones Thread

As an aside, looking at those rankings for the years after 2003, with the obvious correlation <> causation, but my first thought was that that Rodney Harrison guy was pretty good.

The Emergency 3rd QB Rule and Roster Implications

Random thought/memory, but wasn't the opening day game against the Jets in 1999 when Testaverde blew out his achilles affected by the rule (or at least how Bill Parcells coached it). In that Tom Tupa ended up QBing until the 4th quarter, until Rick Mirer took over. (This article indicates that...
