    2024 Red Sox Spring Training

Admittedly not adding much value to the discussion here, as I've only been able to see a few of the televised games this spring training, but (1) those games in the DR were quite fun to watch and (2) I'm actually kind of excited to see what this team can do. The lineup is shaping up to be a fun...

    Rest in Peace, DaveRoberts'Shoes

Awful news and like others have said, it’s a gut punch and must be at least somewhat reflective of what sort of man / human he was that his passing touches so many of us who never even knew his real (given) name. The smallest of small potatoes, but those shoes will forever be left unfilled on SOSH.

What does Red Sox starting pitching look like in 2024?

It's my 49th birthday, so count me in!!! Hopefully things start to happen in earnest soon. I'd be fascinated to see some sort of documentary on this whole process someday and see actual timelines of talks/contacts/negotiations, etc around a big free-agent/trade push.

2024 Red Sox HOF Class: Dustin Pedroia, Jonathan Papelbon, Trot Nixon

Woah woah woah - lesser? My 8-12 year old self remembers Mr. Barrett being the best dang 2B around. Of course, striving for that level of “excellence” is maybe part of what made me one of the most mediocre second baseman in Pelham (NH) high school history. fun fact: according to wiki, MB...

Not our Star Blazer: Yamamoto signs with the Dodgers for $325 million, 12 years

Small potatoes likely in the world of 10+ year, $300+ million contracts, but I wonder how much team defense (as currently construed, as that's the only thing remotely predictable) plays into a pitcher's decision-making process. The Sox continue to say all the right things in that regard, but...

Not our Star Blazer: Yamamoto signs with the Dodgers for $325 million, 12 years

Well played - RIP John Prine I do think the Sox are intent on being competitive with any offer to Yamamoto - and likely have other irons in the fire at the same time. I wonder though that, if they see some writing on the wall RE:YY if the subtle “leak” could be a play to drive the process on...

    5/7/2023 Boston @ Philadelphia

Right - I edited my query as you were responding. It would rely on a error of sorts by the first baseman

That play was interesting- I wonder if this could be a strategy to avoid a sure double play when he ball is hit to the 1st baseman by hoping to confuse the 1st baseman into stepping on first first (as instincts would instruct)

    4/8 Game 8: Tigers/Sox

Ha! He’s owning it. Just said something to the effect of; “He’s got that little slutter”!!!

Do Youk just call a pitch a “slutter”? (Assume that’s Youk)

    The Mainboard MLB Lockout Thread

Advance apologies for the non-substantive post, but this all just sucks. We should be talking about who's in the best shape of their lives, debating lineups, listening to marginal spring training play by play during the workday and filling out Sox win total polls. Instead we're trying to explain...

    Ties, ties, everywhere are ties?

As Club A, they’d be at home too, right? Then if they win, they’re the 1st wildcard team. If they lose, they have a 2nd chance (against team C to become the 2nd wild card team). https://www.mlb.com/news/american-league-wild-card-tiebreakers-explained

    Ties, ties, everywhere are ties?

Three way tie - if you’re the Sox, you opt for being club A, right (host club B, if you lose you travel to club C)? MLB.com makes it sound like there’s something to consider about choosing between A and C.

So where’s the remaining value & possible trade up for the pats? Anything worthwhile to plug a hole? [that’s what she said!]

NFL Draft Rd.1: Discussion, Rumors, Rumblings, Spoilers Gamethread

I love the blank looks on all the fan’s faces when the names are announced (“what did he say?” “Who cares - wave the flag!!”). No one in front of the stage has a clue who the hell these guys are.
