When Is It Okay To Worry About Triston Casas: An Attempt at the Reverse Jinx

I don't think that $150M is going to get it done. In any case, I hope to see him in Boston for the rest of his career.

    How's Boras Doing This Off-Season?

If Boras' style does render him obsolete, so much the better for baseball!

Red Sox, Ceddanne Rafaela agree to contract extension

Well, that's the thing, though. We haven't seen a lot of swings yet*. Guys can take time to develop (Pedroia, Casas), while others never get it (Middlebrooks, Dalbec). It's way too early to make a judgment on how good of a hitter he's going to be. Personally, I like the way he turns on inside...

    SS possibilities going forward

Yeah, Hamilton is very quickly proving the Red Sox wrong. Who knows if Romy can be the guy, but he's the next man up. The Sox are very quickly running out of options.

Red Sox, Ceddanne Rafaela agree to contract extension

I've seen enough high-quality swings from Rafaela to be optimistic about his bat. Even if he doesn't pan out, though, $8M isn't a very big gamble.

Nick Pivetta to the 15-Day IL retroactive to April 6, with a right elbow flexor strain. (Bernardino called up)

Stuff happens...Like I said, I'm just glad that the Sox long-term plan is starting to yield some fruit.

Nick Pivetta to the 15-Day IL retroactive to April 6, with a right elbow flexor strain. (Bernardino called up)

Benj4ever said: The Red Sox haven't signed a starting pitcher to a multi-year deal since 2019, Midnight Ryder Jones made the above quote, not I. In any event, I applaud the Sox for sticking to their plan of developing young pitchers instead of trading them away.

Nick Pivetta to the 15-Day IL retroactive to April 6, with a right elbow flexor strain. (Bernardino called up)

Exactly. Counting de Grom or Ohtani is disingenuous, because neither team was expecting them to be available at this point

Nick Pivetta to the 15-Day IL retroactive to April 6, with a right elbow flexor strain. (Bernardino called up)

The Sox did sign Criswell for this. Right now we have to hope he's up to the task.

    SS possibilities going forward

If I were the Sox I'd let Hamilton "prove me wrong" before looking elsewhere, especially since I'm looking for a short-term fix at this point.

    Friday: Sacramento Sucks

Well, yeah, it is contrived, but it's about the best that Sacramento has to offer (unless I'm missing something other than the train yard).

    Friday: Sacramento Sucks

I worked for the California Energy Commission, located in Sacra - Tomato (as some locals called it). The city was very clean, and Old Town Sacramento was nice. All-in-all, though, it was just a really bland town. So, yeah, it sucked.

March/April: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

Yeah. He was a bit concerning last year, too, as he struggled with wildness at times (3.42BB/9in). Let's face it, though...Kenley is past his prime and hasn't been under 3BB/9 since 2019, so we'll just have to take what we can get.

March/April: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

Oh, I've always been a fan of these guys. I was lobbying for Crawford in the starting rotation 2 years ago, and I called Whitlock and Bello number 1 or 2 starters last year (and was mocked for it). From what I've read on here (as well as in the media), people were way down on the Sox pitching...

March/April: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

Yes, we could have been 3-1 (if not for Reyes playing 3B in game 3 instead of Dalbec, and Rodriguez having made the team). But we could have been 0-4, if the starting pitching had really been as bad as predicted. If you had told me going into Seattle that we'd have gone 2-2, I would have...

Do You Want John Henry To Sell The Red Sox?

Exactly. I'd say you're batting 2-for-2 today. I'm open to alternative definitions of "all-in," but mine corresponds the most closely to what I've seen both here and elsewhere.

Do You Want John Henry To Sell The Red Sox?

Precisely. If "all-in" means mortgaging the future in an attempt to win this year, count me out.

Revised contract predictions for Snell and Montgomery

Yeah, I realize there are old numbers in there. I was beating my "The Sox should have signed Sonny Gray" dead horse. If Sonny is worth $25M/year, Montgomery is worth less.
